Ruger LCR or S&W 442?

I'm looking at one of these as a possible pocket/summertime carry gun. Which one would ya'll recommend? BTW please don't say both, as much as I'd like to, my bank account won't let that happen.

I have a S&W 642. Same gun as the 442 only stainless which will be better for summer carry. Less chance of rusting.

I think I would hold off on the Ruger LCR until they have been out for a while.

+1 on the above. The LCR has alot of potential, but IMHO it's just too new. It still needs a couple years to make sure there aren't any teething problems.

I would go with the Smith if you can afford it. I handled one of the rugers at a gun shop just the other day and though the concept of the polymer frame revolver is a good one, I would appreciate some history before I ever get one. the frame is really thin. But it is proven in the autos, and I love my XD, the frame just seems kind of frail to me.

Id get the smith, just cause it looks more reliable and smith has a trusted name for their pocket guns.

Having compared the two, I'd probably go with the Smith; while the LCR has a much smoother & lighter trigger than the 442, it's also heavier and bulkier.

I'm not too worried about the LCR's reliability; yes, Ruger's had some issues with their recently released autos, but they usually know their stuff when it comes to revolvers.

I'd recommend playing with both, and figuring out which one you like.

+1 with this post.

I have been carrying the 642CT (crimson trace) for a couple of years. It does have a stiff trigger pull... so you may want to buy the "performance" model that has had a trigger job. You may also want to consider the 638 (shrouded hammer) version. While you have to be a bit more attentive to cleaning it, it will offer you the DA/SA option without the possibility of snagging as you remove it from your pocket.

You'll also want to make sure that you go to the range to practice with this gun. Between its weight and shooting characteristics, it's easy to be off target (in my case shooting high) when using the iron sights. Hence, the reason for the laser... not to mention the fact that it would get a BG's attention a bit quicker than just my "little gun".

+2 in a year or 2 I may change my mind, but for now I'd go with the S+W.
