Shoot them. And to reiterate on Mark's comment, change angle and engage the threat. Because, even in a SHTF situation like that, you still want to be safe by being aware of what's behind your target instead of going all Tony Montana.

Shoot without hesitation. I can't stand and watch someone become a victim, and after the shooter kills the clerk, he's probably going to come for me.

I was trying to explain this tactic to a person who was questioning me about defending my home and the possibility to shooting a neighbor through a wall. I told them that I know the places in my home that I would be likely to hit someone other than my target and that I would drop to a knee and shoot up. He laughed and told me that I wouldn't be able to think to do that in a crisis. I told him training, training, training. And also that I care for 7-8 preschoolers and infants everyday...I have plenty of experience THINKING in a crisis! LOL
And, I would shoot him as he has already started shooting and is a direct threat. Besides, there aren't many places to take cover in a typical gas station/conv store. Bullets wil go through the shelves easily.

In your scenario,
Robber actually firing shots, I'm in the area, my life is in danger, I return fire.
If the robber just walked in and yelled "this is a f'up raise your hands you mother stickers" Then I'd keep walking out of the store and be a good witness.

First I would soil myself,,,, then I would hope that training and all of the time spent practicing would allow me to draw my weapon, take dead aim, fire, and my round/rounds would find their intended home in the BG's chest cavity mortally wounding the BG.

There are alot of if's, and as much as i wouldnt want to if i had a shot i will take it. yes the robbery could go smoothly and alot of time it does and they just take the money. But if you are there and all of a sudden the cashier puts up a fight it will get violent fast, and you just lost your clear shot because hes fighting with the cashier what do you do then. but anything can happen so who knows.

In my state I can defend others and myself, I voted to shoot him. If he is shooting with me present, I more than likely will be an eventual target. So stopping the threat as quickly as possible is more than likely what I would do.
