1979 - Orange County Airport Renamed

On June 20, 1979, the Orange County Airport was renamed John Wayne Airport by the Orange County Board of Supervisors to honor the late cowboy actor John Wayne.

The point of this thread, for those who question it, is that for the first time in history, it has been decided that an American institution will be re-named after a President *before* he has taken office, with the sole reason being he won the election (since by default you can have no other presidential accomplishments *before* you take office). It proves beyond the shadow of a doubt that O's cult of personality exists and is very strong. I wonder if we are going to see big statues of him everywhere like in other communist countries...

Those statues don't necessarily have to be left standing, someone could (by accident of course) could crash into one with a gasoline fuel tanker.

so it's not a pointless thread! IMO, it just a sign of things to come. Americans (what's left of us) may be pulling down 40 foot idols of him in town squares in the future.
