The boat was attacked because it would not comply with the Isralei orders to stop. Unknown boat in a sensitive area like the Gaza strip that does not let its intentions be known is asking for trouble from an already nervous and highly suspicious IDF.

Its simple....stop the rocket attacks and the IDF will stop pounding on you...but Hamas does not get it.

I agree that hamas is a bunch of assholes... but why should Civilians pay the price? I think this is what all the outrage is about.

The civilians are living in the middle of a war zone. That's what happens. Everyone gets all outraged about the poor civilians, but both sides have killed civilians. With that kind of a guerilla / terrorist-style war, and in such a populated area, it's almost inevitable. One or both sides may target civilians; it all depends on who you believe.

If we *actually* cared about the civilians, we'd help one side decisively win, and end the perpetual violence. The short, messy battle would probably result in less civilian deaths than this interminable conflict.

Yes, but no Israeli civilians are dying. It's one-sided dying here.
