Ahem.....ya kind of skipped this part in your quote. An oversight on your part, I'm sure.......

Seeings how my comments were limited to this thread on XDTalk I wasn't attempting to skip over anything. Had we been talking in the larger context of politics or especially religion I would've probably taken my thoughts and comments to bed with me rather than impart them on my fellow XD afficionados.

I must have missed that disclaimer about your comments here.

G'night.

Nothing desperate about me. The song came up on my cd player tonight on the way home and I was intrigued by the parallels.

Wikipedia says ""Won't Get Fooled Again" is about a revolution. In the first verse, there is an uprising. In the middle, the rebels overthrow those in power, but in the end, the new regime becomes just like the old one ("Meet the new boss, same as the old boss").

Liberals are already uneasy about Obama's new direction and he hasn't even taken office yet. Promises of change make people all teary eyed but in the end there is no escaping the reality of how things work.

If it makes you feel better, Townshend's completely immersed in the Obama koolaid.

BTW, in this song Daltrey has the best scream in the history of rock and roll. The guy from Jet comes in second place with his scream in the song Cold Hard ***** (which he obviously wrote about Hillary or possibly Michelle but we'll discuss that another day).

I think Pete Townsend knew a simple truth about Revolutions. They NEVER give power to the people. The best I know, only one revolution has given power to the people (1776), and their documents still guard us however slightly. In DC they give lipservice to these great men but in deed they betray them in every action.

After Bush's last term, I'm convinced that the slide into cult-of-state is a done deal. Whoever was to win the election would simply sit on the throne and get rid of what is left of the old.

At least with Barry, we know we are getting a self-absorbed Narcissist who is wholly dedicated to European models of government. The repubs and the dems are headed to the same place; the dems are just a little less dishonest about the goal. The repub party has become the party of the Robber Barons, the dems have become the "America is behind the times" party, and I am left wondering why no major party represents the ideals of the Founding Fathers.
