NYC Mayor seeks to ban/cutrail salt use in food

BLOOMY TO NYC: HOLD THE SALT - New York Post

Quote:
The city has come up with a plan to help you shake your salt habit, according to New York magazine.
In a closed-door gathering at Gracie Mansion late last month, health experts and food-industry representatives were told about Mayor Bloomberg's next crusade - an effort to reduce the salt in processed food by 20 percent over the next five years, the magazine reports in this week's issue.
City health czar Dr. Thomas Frieden went as far as saying that high blood pressure, which is linked to excessive salt, is "the greatest public-health threat facing the city."
He leaned on industry groups to sign on to the plan by the end this month, according to an attendee.
Restaurateurs will be encouraged to join a "voluntary" initiative and that there won't be new regulations.
I guess liberal food ****'s like bland, tasteless food.

why in gods name would anyone patronize this type of govt with your tax dollars by living there. Well on the bright side they are on the right path to banning things that cause cardiovascular disease and death, the #1 killer of Americans.

What are in unintended consequences of all the "bans" that have become so popular today? It seems to me that a lot of them hurt the economy and take choices away from the consumer. This whole concept of the government legislating health is a load of crap. We should see ourselves as lucky to live in a country where we have such a freedom of choice that we can kill ourselves with luxury. While we die from eating fast food, a lot more worldwide die from not eating at all.

I could possible be swayed to support such things in theory, but there are other areas of public health that we've missed the boat on completely. Thousands may die this week from cardiovascular disease. They should be so lucky when thousands of others are going to contract HIV from partners who have it and don't even know it, or who know it but have no legal requirement to let them know.

I find this hilarious! I've been saying for years, after they've finished their anti-smoking crusade, they'll pick on overweight people next and this is the first step. Next thing they'll be doing is putting a 'sin tax' on cheeseburgers, calling it a health tax. So that $4 cheeseburger will become $5 and then $7 and up to $10 by the time they are done. Fries will be like $6 and soda, another $5. We'll be paying stadium prices at McD's before long.

Funny, I figured: Crack, Meth, and Cocaine would rank up there with their biggest health crisises along with AIDS, Hepatitis, Tuburculosis and MERSA. It just shows how completely lost and retarded the left is to real issues. To qoute the now missing from Comedy Central Carlos Mencia, "Di-Dah-Di!"

Oh crap am I going to agree with YY? Mostly yes. What the jackasses in the article don't cover is the fact that many city folk (office worker types) don't need that salt. But those who work in other area's where you sweat a lot do need extra salt. You don't need to get it from the processed food, you can add it yourself. But yeah the big city bozo's are doing nothing more than exercising their right to socialism.
