Spot on observation. If anything, an Administration - in concert with Congress - can slow/hurt an economy, but can do really little to improve it.

Basically, it boils down to setting the stage for allowing businesses to succeed (but it is the market that actually determines the success), or setting the stage such that businesses have a more difficult time succeeding, or become more profitable elsewhere.

trik396,
You and I should be proud, we lead the nation in sales tax (10.0%... and 10.25% in Chicago); I'm nearly certain we have more gun deaths so far this year than Baghdad, Iraq and maybe even D.C. (yet hand gun ownership is banned and we have some of the most restrictive gun laws in the country); Stroger wants another $5 billion in tax revenue for Cook County; the teacher's union rules the roost in our pathetic public school system which rank somewhere around 780th out of 858 major metro school systems); and Daley the Younger wants to host the 2016 Olympics in Chicago. Wonder where he plans to get THAT money from?

I've already pointed out in several threads the incestuous politics, nepotism and corruption, so no need to repeat those things.

And now, in scarcely a week, the noble Electorate has the grand opportunity to elevate all this wonderment to the national level!

I know that the United States is already doing it. It sickens me.

I consider myself as radical, anti-welfare as any person could get. I think that cutting welfare, food stamps, and Section 8 is a good way to free up money for the government. I have long thought that welfare and unemployment benefits should be determined by the amount of time and income that you have generated taxes on, in your lifetime. Similar to using the Social Security statements to determine how much you qualify for. So, a person who has worked since they were 15 to maybe age 55 or 60, and becomes disabled or loses their job, will have a nice return on their investment to fall back on. However, an 18 year old "Dynasty welfare" child who knocks out a kid at age 18 with no job and education qualifies for NOTHING. ZERO. Since the infant can not help that the parents did this, a foster family will take care of it, until one of the parents gets a job. Oh, and they need to line up for sterilization, or risk being jailed for child endangerment if they have another kid without the ability to pay for it. Oh yeah, and Sheriff Arpaio will be running the jails. Time for some cheap nutraloaf and saltpeter gravy.

Now, I understand that crime may rise. I am not totally against helping people. But, only help people that want to help themselves. Take the money that we will be saving on welfare and use it to pay for job fairs, seminars on how to create resumes, hunt for jobs, how to interview properly. Maybe even buy an aspiring person with little resources a new suit to interview with. Bascially invest welfare in vocational programs for those that want to work and TOTALLY deny those who do not.

As far as wealth distribution is concerned, I am doing my best to LEGALLY cut my tax burden. Without getting into all of the details. I have undertaken some financial strategies this past month that will reduce my tax burden now, as much as possible, put more in my pocket, and less for the gubment to hand out to the welfare vermin. Exemptions, child care, flex spending, home equity, ROTH IRA's. Beautiful combo. Oh yeah, and a CPA wife.

Odd how Clinton alone gets credit for the 1996 Welfare Overhaul.

Who ran Congress for the first time in almost 40 years? Would they have nothing to do with it? Cant pass something that significant without the Repulican Congress...can he?

Nah...its was a good thing so the credit goes all to Clinton!

Odd how Clinton was seen as an ecnomic genuis, when under his watch, Enron and World Com were robbing its shareholders blind and doing their bidding. But Bush gets the blame for THAT.

Amazing!
