Obama stated in his remarks that many were living beyond their means because of easy money, and he said things were going to change.

we know things will change...all we'll have left is change. if i am not mistaken, it was obama's team who pushed sub prime loans to help people live above their means.

Then why do so many of his policies encourage and enable such behavior??? Why does he think the rich should foot more of the bill for those behaviors???

So what is he going to do to change HIMSELF. I didn't hear anything about his personal responsibility. Or is he just concerned with changing me???

How exactly are they going to change Etta?

How is Obama going to make sure no one lives beyond their means? Simple. Take away all but their basic means by Wealth Redistribution by taxation.

Ya can't live beyond your means when you haven't been left many means, can you?

Encourage personal responsibility? How do you "encourage" personal responsibility. Either you are personally responsible and succeed, or you aren't and you fail. Anytime I hear the word encourage all I can hear is "you gave it your best, so here's what we'll do for you". I'm sorry, you can't encourage personal responsibility, it's something that has to be expected, demanded, and respected. When people fail we must leave them to face the consequences of failure. The idea of a bailout shouldn't only leave a bad taste in your mouth because of the government overstepping its bounds, it should outrage you that we are rewarding failure, corruption, and sheer stupidity. Anyone who took out a mortgage that they can't afford is stupid! I said it! STUPID! Why should we pay for their stupidity? Why should we pay for Wall Street's corruption? Why should we pay for the government's failure? Oh wait I remember... because the market would crash without the bailout... It's doing a pretty good job of self-destructing in spite of the bailout. If he had wanted to encourage personal responsibility, then maybe he should have taken a look with all of his infinite wisdom at what was happening in Washington and step up to say "wait a minute, something's wrong here". Fact is he didn't. He towed the party line. The demoRat congress has had 4 years to make a difference, and they haven't done a damned thing. You can't blame this on Bush if the demoRats were willing participants in the policies that caused this mess. McCain is more of a democrat than any of the demoRats in Washington today.

If he had voted against the $850 Billion Bailout, I might have been willing to consider that, but he fell right in line with the rest of them that kept preaching "we need to free up the credit (easy money) market" and "we need to bail out these corporations/banks." His walk does not match his talk and he can say whatever he wants--it won't matter, he's proven himself a complete phony when it comes to that statement.

Why do you continue to believe everything he says even though it is directly contradicted in a lot of cases by his actions? Why do you continue to believe he will do things "differently" once he's President than he did when he was a Senator and candidate? Why do you continue to take what he says at face value?

Well, I don't have any great love for the man, either. In fact, I think he's been one of the most damaging Presidents since FDR. That doesn't mean I throw out all my sense and start taking politicians at their word (especially when their record says the exact opposite)!

I know what you're saying, though. There is an element of people that are so blinded by their anti-Bush rage that they will believe anything Obama tells them.
