Actually, ACORN money WAS in the bailout bill until the GOP was successful in getting it removed from the legislation.

The final version of the bill did not include any acorn money.

Careful Frank. Cannibul is the keeper of all facts (as he sees them) and the judge of the accuracy (as he feels it fits his agenda) of all posts on this forum. He won't let facts get in the way.

lol...I guess I've never heard of this guy...

I'm not saying he is wrong at all. He is right that there was no ACORN money in the bill. I was just pointing out that there was ACORN money in the bill at one time, but it was taken out.

Text of the ACORN Related Provision in Bailout Bill The Foundry

That links to the text that is supposed to be the ACORN funding that was removed. Please point out to me where it mentions ACORN?

Some right wing nut job got their panties in twist and then it just snowballed and no one bothered to actually read the damn thing.

All we heard about was ACORN getting money. Well they are NOT mentioned in that text. I'm not saying that they may have gotten money if that was passed. But according to most people who never bothered to check into it there was a passage that directly gave ACORN money and mentioned them by name. And that's just not the case.

Some of you people actually need to start reading stuff beyond the headlines.

Or listen to someone who actually has their head screwed on straight.

Same thing with the "pork" for the wooden arrows. There was no pork for the wooden arrows.

Here is a link with an audio file about the arrows.

If you look at the text you posted, you will see that the money was going to be earmarked for the "Housing Trust Fund established under section 1338 of the Federal Housing Enterprises Regulatory Reform Act of 1992 (12 U.S.C. 456; ".

ACORN has received money from that trust fund--that is where the connection is made.

I agree with you that republicans probably made the connection and hyped it up in order to scare people, but that doesn't meant the connection doesn't exist.

A very tenuous connection.

And again as I stated. ACORN was NOT mentioned by name. That money could and would go to MANY places. Also note that there is NO specific amount listed beyond a percentage.

The hype was that ACORN was going to get $800,000 of money from the bailout.

Another take on the subject.

And another take

That money could well have gone to the Tan Klan.

Well then we agree. All I am saying is that ACORN would most likely have received funds, since the trust fund that was mentioned in the text you posted has funded ACORN in the past. ACORN has actually been investigated for misusing funds from these trust funds.

I do agree that throwing out the $800,000 figure and implying that ACORN was specifically mentioned in the bill are misleading.

Here are more of the specifics...

OpenMarket.org Archive An Untrustworthy Housing Fund — Housing bill has likely ACORN slush Fund

And here is a link from the ACORN WEBSITE supporting this exact trust fund that was previously in the bailout bill! No wonder they are supporting it...they were probably going to get the money!

National Housing Trust Fund to be introduced in Congress

Oh and nice sig by the way! I doubt kev will ever respond...
