Under the radar

Just caught a snippet of this on my local news 2 minutes ago. Won't have time to search but hopefully some of you can....

Just announced that University of Chicago (or maybe Illinois, but that wouldn't make sense) is going to release 140 some pages of Obama and Ayers information about them working together and such.

If anyone can pull up a link to this info it would be appreciated.

That's why I'm surprised I caught the 15 second sound bite about this info being released. It was on local WGN news.

I read the same thing last night on a Yahoo news piece that just had a one sentence description and no details.

Wink Here ya go trik - You'll like the last sentence

U of I at Chicago readies to release records

By DEANNA BELLANDI | Associated Press Writer 5:30 PM CDT, August 25, 2008 CHICAGO - The University of Illinois at Chicago prepared for Tuesday's release of 140 boxes of documents from a nonprofit organization Barack Obama served on that is linked to former 1960s radical William Ayers.

The university on Monday posted a detailed index of the records from the school reform group, the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, that Ayers was instrumental in starting and Obama chaired in the 1990s.

Ayers, who teaches at the university, has a controversial past that some supporters of Republican John McCain want to highlight because of his past work with Obama. Ayers helped found the Weather Underground organization that took credit for a series of bombings, including nonfatal blasts at the Pentagon and U.S. Capitol four decades ago.

Obama's campaign has started airing a television commercial to try to counter an ad by an outside group that focuses on the Democratic presidential candidate's ties to Ayers.

Several news organizations, including The Associated Press, have signed up to review the records of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, which was awarded nearly $50 million by a foundation in the 1990s to help reform city schools, UIC spokesman Mark Rosati said.

The university recently resolved a question about the availability of the records that had been in their collection, Rosati said.

The documents being released include hundreds of folders that include financial reports, proposals and correspondence, according to the index.

"The Annenberg Challenge, funded by a Republican appointee to the Nixon administration and friend of President Reagan, was an education reform program that provided the largest grant ever to the Chicago Public Schools. Any suggestion that the organization was out of the mainstream is false -- John McCain even praised one of its initiatives," Obama spokesman Ben LaBolt said in an e-mail statement.

The money was part of Ambassador Walter H. Annenberg's $500 million "Challenge to the Nation" whereby public-private partnerships would try to improve public schools, according to the Annenberg Institute's Web site.

Obama has said he "deplored" what Ayers did in the 1960s and that "by the time I met him, he is a professor of education at the University of Illinois. We served on a board together that had Republicans, bankers, lawyers, focused on education."

Obama and Ayers also live in the same South Side neighborhood. When Obama first ran for office, Ayers held an event for him at his home.

Well, it's all over the news by me right now. They've been showing the new McCain commercial linking Ayers with Obama and such. Hope this one picks up some momentum.

If you knew how ultra liberal the University of Chicago is, this wouldn't surprise you one bit.

Thanks AZXD for the links/info. Let us keep up on this one. Is it on your local news as much as by me? Just saw it again more in depth.

From what I can gather, all we will find in these files is the friendship between Ayers and Obama and how they spent 50-100million dollars frivolously on Chicago Public Schools which remain the worst in the nation. That is one of Obama's accomplishments. Failing to help the public schools miserably. And the reason we won't find more is because Daley allegedly sent his goons in prior to these documents being released. Makes you wonder why Obama's camp tried to stifle the release.

Things that make you go Hmmmmm.
