Big brother caught me!
Just received a notice of "RED LIGHT VIOLATION" via mail from the great city of Chitcago. Three VERY clear pics of my truck going thru the intersection allegedly during a red light. I live on the out skirts of the city and rarely venture further inland but they got me going to one of my banks... bastards. There goes a Benjamin to the mayors cofer.
And I say allegedly because I'm a careful driver and almost never speed or run lights etc. I believe the light was yellow until the instant I hit the intersection then it changed to red as there is plenty of traffic all around me in the picture. Just had to vent. I think I'll wipe my a$$ with the check before I mail it to the mayor. I also put nice comments in the memo portion of the check anytime I send checks to the city. "Mayor Daley sucks" or "Mayor Daley is a commie"... stuff like that.

I'd take it to court anyway. I typically do just to exercise my civil rights. Last time I did the JoP reduced my fine and points by half just " for exercising my civil rights".

I have a habit of punching the gas on an amber light but I'm getting better about it. I'm now stopping on the amber and giving the camera a one finger salute.
You should squeeze a quote from the 2A in the memo section of your check. Last edited by Dhunter55; 08-21-2008 at 03:16 AM. |

If it didn't come via certified mail and require a signature ... Trash it.
Wait for the third one to arrive, and then fight it by stating you never received the ticket.

trik396,
Which intersection? I venture into Chicago on the N and NW sides pretty frequently.

Wasn't that the day you loaned your car to a buddy? Or was it the day it was in the shop?
I was under the impression that traffic citations were issues to drivers, not cars. They have no way to prove that you were the one driving, but you also have no way to prove that you were not. I have had the DA stand in the court room and say that in the case of traffic citations you are guilty until proven innocent, so you may have an uphill battle. Check your local laws. I've done my share of fighting traffic citations and won half of the time. It is a no win situation for you. Even if you win, you are still out some pay which probably far exceeds the cost of the ticket. If you lose you are out that plus the cost of the ticket and court costs. They have you over a barrel because you are the only one in the room regarding your case that isn't getting paid to be there. The system is designed for you to fail.

Driving is a privilege not a right, and if your car "mysteriously" ran a red light, it's your problem to figure out who was driving, not the state's problem. If your car T-bones somone in the intersection while running the light, whose insurance do you think will take the hit? Who do you think the cops will come after? Unless your car was stolen, it's your responsibility to control where it goes, no matter who drives it.
