Hey JUSTGOTBACK: I was wrong, you were right.

A while back I was voicing my concerns that our leadership could get there act together and accomplish anything with the surge. Well they did.

You were right, and I was wrong. Thank you and all the other service member's for your extreme dedication and hard work to pull America out of a tight one. If Obama can flip flop, then I guess it's settled. You should like this article too..

Powerman,
If you haven't already read it, check out Michael Yon's Moment of Truth in Iran

I guess I am going to have to finally find out what all the hubbub is about. Many people respect his writing. With my recent interest in Generation Kill, I'm going to have to read Yon and see what's up.

You know Powerman, you have always been one I enjoy discussing the issues with. You're smart, articulate, and don't take offense when opinions differ. I appreciate you posting this, although you didn't need to do so. I have always believed we would sort things out in Iraq, just not in the timeline the media was forcing on us. Thanks for the post, and thanks for supporting all the great efforts of all us have given to Iraq and its people...Still lots to do there, but there is light at the end of the tunnel...

My opinion has not changed that our leadership was not as it should have been. However, that does absolutely nothing to deminish what the Armed Forces have done.

One thing that was really different about this war. There was extreme opposition to how it was managed, yet that never came from the troops. The vast majority did believe in what they were doing.

I was recommending Alive Day Memories to someone. Those soldiers sacrificed so much and still believed in their mission. I never really said it out loud on the forum, but that really changed my out look. I figured if they could sacrifice so much for what they believe, the least I could do was to STFU.

I still have my political opinions, but God Damn am I proud of our Men and Women in uniform. Cheers. Keep them ops black.

The surge has worked militarily, but the political reasons for it have yet to evolve. Our troops can't do much about that, unfortunately.

And I agree with you on this. However, with the Iraq government wanting us to leave soon, it seems political problems have been solved, or at least will no longer be our responsibility.

We both voiced skepticism at the time because the surge did not provide a political solution. Yet technically, the surge was supposed to quell violence and provide time for the Iraq government to stand up. It appears that the surge accomplished exactly what it intended.

Well...It quelled the violence and did give time for the government to get their ducks in a row, however the political outcome will not translate to a stable Iraq, and in this regard, it is somewhat less successful.
I will accept the "here's the door" from them, and let them deal with the consequences of their own making.

I can agree with that. I am happy to see light at the end of our tunnel. I am under no illusions that Iraq is the definition of stability.
