Gas prices are the reason. How high they are is the catalyst. You raise them, the faster we become independent. In the past 5 years the "green" market has exploded. Even in construction I'm seeing a demand for "green" buildings. This means things like recycle blue jean insulation. Recycled glass countertops. Appliances that get a certain energy rating. It's crazy the way things are going. And it's awesome

you are correct, i did confuse biodiesel with ethanol...they are however both vegetable based.

I agree with you, but what good is a switch if we have no country to pick up the new technologies.

we can not survive on 6 dollar a gallon gas. I'll reiterate that i'm not sure you've thought the consequences of 6 dollar a gallon gas through.

Also, the world market disagrees with you, and oil is sliding down back into the realm of reality.

TBH, and i don't say this to sound mean or anything, but you sound like a middle class suburbanite who can afford quite a few things and the gas increase won't hurt you like it will cripple some families. what about the single income families who can't afford to drive to work? seriously, think about the consequences of 6 dollar a gallon gas.

I second this. I, by choice, support my family off of a good wage for a young man in a struggling economy. But spending $250+ a month just to get to work and back hurts very badly. And I don't live far away, or have a V8.

I shop for food every two weeks. What was costing me 40 dollars a year ago is costing me upwards of 75 now.

I don't think a 53% increase is normal inflation.

I use the term neocon to describe a foreign policy orientation. I don't use it as a catch-all term to describe general conservatives or libertarians.

you and I are in the same boat then. I bought a 2007 toyota yaris. it gets in the high 30's for gas mileage and it still costs me more than 50 dollars to fill it up. just because someone is hurting with gas prices doesn't mean they are driving a gas guzzler.
