What does it include? What things that you buy have increased in price lately - aside from fuel?

Etta, I understand what you're trying to do but I'm done biting after this. Have you been to a grocery store lately? Noticed anything different about the prices in the last year or two?

methinks someone hasn't though this one through....

not to mention lower income people are hit hardest by high gas prices, the people who can't afford SUV's to begin with. So you're in support of driving the lower class further into poverty.

Then you have to remember that first of all, everything we buy has fuel costs factored into it. So you're in support of high food costs, again which impact those who can't afford the good food. You're essentially in favor of keeping lower income families addicted to cheap junk food full of high fructose corn syrup perpetuating the obesity epidemic rather than lowering fuel prices to make fruits and vegetables etc more available to all.

Then factor in that you are a supporter of biodeisel. Which is essentially burning our food supply. Corn is a staple crop. Farmers are being subsidized to grow biodiesel corn rather than food corn. Less supply means higher corn prices. Sure you might be saving some money by switching to bio deisel, but you are paying the difference in your food budget? Have you seen food prices lately? Continually up up up, and you are advocating the burning of our food supply!

There is so much wrong with high gas prices its not even funny. And there is so much wrong with advocating a position that will cripple our country that its not even funny.

Am i saying we should continue to guzzle gasoline by the billions of gallons? of course not. But we NEED oil in the interim to get us to the next big thing, and the next big thing isn't even on the horizon. We have a national security interest in keeping fuel prices low enough to keep the economy running.
A) Biodiesel is not ethanol. Me thinks you are a bit confused.
B) Oil has been "getting us through" for a 100 years now. Now is the time to switch.
C) Poverty level people aren't going to change because of cheaper oil of food. Education is the key to killing poverty. Virtually all economic growth since the 1970's has gone to the top 10%. The a CIA factbook reference. You won't kill poverty with fresh vegetables or cheap oil

Gas prices are the reason. How high they are is the catalyst. You raise them, the faster we become independent. In the past 5 years the "green" market has exploded. Even in construction I'm seeing a demand for "green" buildings. This means things like recycle blue jean insulation. Recycled glass countertops. Appliances that get a certain energy rating. It's crazy the way things are going. And it's awesome

I'm very politcally minded, and I've noticed this board is super neo-con. So I figured I could have a lot of fun here.
just out of curiosity, why do you care if people drive SUV's and trucks? free market and all that.

But advocating 6 dollar a gallon gas is tantamount to advocating the death of our economy and way of life.

we can not survive on 6 dollar a gallon gas. I'll reiterate that i'm not sure you've thought the consequences of 6 dollar a gallon gas through.

Also, the world market disagrees with you, and oil is sliding down back into the realm of reality.

TBH, and i don't say this to sound mean or anything, but you sound like a middle class suburbanite who can afford quite a few things and the gas increase won't hurt you like it will cripple some families. what about the single income families who can't afford to drive to work? seriously, think about the consequences of 6 dollar a gallon gas.

Can it be attributed to normal inflation? I don't know. I am not that great about adhering to a budget, and I shop at an expensive grocery store anyway.

I, for one, started riding a bicycle everywhere I go. Now I use the $200 a month that I used to use in gas on other things. I don't think the whole country should or could ride bikes. But there are ways everyone can cut down on gas use. I think it would be awesome if someone made a small one man car that runs with a motorcycle engine. That way you have the MPG of a motorcycle with the safety of a car. After all, driving on the freeway, 99% of the vehicles on the road only have one person in them.
