Here is how I look at it. You are on a Ship. the ship has a fire on the main deck, and the ship has a ten inch hole four feet below the water line. The ship also has a engine dripping a little oil. The first one endangers half the ship, the second one endangers the whole ship, and the last one, can go for months with no danger.

What do you want me to fix first????

Well the USA is that ship, and superficial is the oil drip.

Obvioulsy plug the whole first, then put out the fire. Last worry about the drip
Okay, but if the public is pissed off because they think baseball has become corrupted by drugs and they're tired of seeing racehorses collapsing on the track and being euthanized, and they're telling Congress, "Do something!" what should Congress do?

Issue statements containing something of the following:

Baseball: It's a private enterprise and if the fans want to see change they should take it up with the governing bodies of the sport, not the nation. If the game continues to be run in an unethical way, stop spending money on the games and teams. Pro sports is a business first and foremost--you hit them in the bottom line to make your point.

Horse racing: Take it up with the individual states. If the governments of the states in which these events are taking place are that concerned about it, they'll initiate cruelty-to-animal investigations and deal with it on a local level, as it should be.

Congress should not be the catch-all and do-all of the country, instead handling only those national issues they are allowed to under the Constitution--and quite frankly, I don't see either of the aforementioned industries qualifying for "national command" attention. If people go clamoring to D.C. over every little thing, it's a disappointing indicator over how much the Feds have overstepped their bounds both in real jurisdiction, and in creating an erroneous D.C.-centralized governmental model in the minds of the populace. Congress should be the last place most of these things end up, but sadly, that's not the case.

Sounds like a case of people not understanding the responsibility of the federal government.

Nothing is what the govenment should do about base ball or any other sport. It is not the govenments job, and it has nothing to do with running the country.

Again they have much bigger, more important and pressing things to worry about Like the energy problems, like the war, like the economy and so on.
