DC police cheif addresses citizens

I found this at Frontsight's blog. Gratuitous plugging aside I think it's a good article and it shows what kind of mindset is at the top of DC law enforcement. News like this actually makes want to do a lot more training.

Unenlightened in Law Enforcement

Quote:

In last week’s Monday Blog Post I shared jail house interviews with you from two men who killed for nothing more than cigarettes and pocket change as evidence of why you should have a gun, training, and a Concealed Weapons Permit so you can carry a gun EVERYWHERE YOU GO.
This week I want to share with you an equally strong, yet 180 degree opposite reason to secure a Concealed Weapon Permit.
I want to show you what the Police Chief of Washington DC had to say about the Supreme Court’s decision, ruling the Washington DC Gun Ban as unconstitutional and affirming the 2nd Amendment as an individual’s right to own firearms.
If you have ever visited Washington DC, I’m sure you recognized that if you travel just a few blocks away, in any direction, from the park-like areas of monuments and government buildings, you are in the middle of urban blight that any law abiding person would want and need a gun for self defense protection.
It truly amazes me how our government, with all their tax dollars, manpower and entitlements for the underprivileged have not been able to clean up their own backyard!
Come on now! Washington DC should be the epitome of all cities, the shining star of America.
Instead, it has been the murder capital of the United States for decades and is not only an eyesore, it is an embarrassment to every hard-working, law-abiding,
tax-paying citizen.
Why is Washington DC perpetually the blight of the country?
One of the reasons is due to the fact that Washington DC had the strictest gun control in the country! Even a country boy with a 6th grade schoolyard education knows that if only the crooks have weapons, the good folks are going to get robbed, raped and killed cause they don’t have nothin’ to protect themselves with.
Well look what the Police Chief of Washington DC had to say about the Supreme Court’s ruling that overturned the DC Gun Ban and affirmed the rights of DC residents to own a gun in their homes…
The following is a memo sent to Washington, DC residents by Cathy Lanier, Washington, DC Chief of Police:
From: Lanier, Cathy (MPD)
Sent: Thursday, June 26, 2008 6:35 PM
Subject: Supreme Court Update

Residents,
Unfortunately, the Supreme Court today struck down part of the District of Columbia’s handgun ban. I wanted to drop you a note to let you know the immediate impact of this decision.
The Supreme Court’s ruling is limited and leaves intact various other laws that apply to private residents who would purchase handguns or other firearms for home possession. It is important that everyone know that:
a.. First, all firearms must be registered with the Metropolitan Police Department’s Firearms Registration Section before they may be lawfully possessed.
a.. Second, automatic and semiautomatic handguns generally remain illegal and may not be registered.
a.. Third, the Supreme Court’s ruling is limited to handguns in the home and does not entitle anyone to carry firearms outside his or her own home.

Lastly, although the Court struck the safe storage provision on the ground that it was too broadly written, in my opinion firearms in the home should be kept either unloaded and disassembled or locked.
I will comply with the Court’s reading of the Second Amendment in its letter and spirit. At the same time, I will continue to vigorously enforce the District’s other gun-related laws. I will also continue to find additional ways to protect the District’s residents against the scourge of gun violence.
Residents who want additional information can visit the Metropolitan Police Website at Metropolitan Police Department: Gun Registration. Residents with questions are encouraged to contact the Firearms Registration Section at 202-727-9490.
Sincerely,
Cathy Lanier
Chief of Police

Take a look at Chief Cathy Lanier’s educational background:
Metropolitan Police Department: Lanier, Cathy
How can someone be so educated, yet be so unenlightened to think that the Supreme Court’s ruling was “unfortunate”? And how can someone have the opinion that guns in the home of law-abiding citizens are somehow a bad thing that should be kept unloaded, disassembled or locked? Is that they way Police Chief Lanier keeps her gun at home? Well, what do you say, Cathy?
Want to “find additional ways to protect the District’s residents against the scourge of gun violence”, Cathy? Look no further than every state that has adopted a “shall issue” Concealed Carry Law allowing their law abiding citizens to carry a concealed handgun. These states have all seen a drop in violent crime since adopting such laws. Or better yet, pass a law like Kennesaw, GA did so many years ago requiring every household to have a gun. Kennesaw has grown up rapidly in the last 20 years and is now a suburb of Atlanta with much of the same demographics and social issues of Washington DC yet the last time I checked, Kennesaw was MURDER-FREE since passing the law over two decades ago.
Want to know why Washington DC is the blight of America instead of being the centerpiece of our great country? Start looking at the impact educated fools like Chief Lanier make on our cities and then start working your way up through the government to find the same types of educated idiots who put the Cathy Laniers of the world in charge. The common denominator of all these gun haters is a fear of law-abiding citizens having the ability to protect themselves and the nerve to think they know what is best for you and me…
So get a gun, training and a Concealed Weapon Permit to show Cathy Lanier and her kind what our Founding Fathers understood explicitly, If you can fight back, the bullies (foreign or domestic) won’t bother you. That’s really what Cathy and her kind are afraid of…
And if you don’t have a gun, training and a 30 State Concealed Weapon Permit, then a world class Front Sight training experience and a free Springfield Armory XD Pistol awaits you with Front Sight’s Greatest Course, Gun and CCW Permit Offer Ever.

I will be posting a different article on this blog each Monday so I look forward to your visit every week.

Are there restrictions on what kinds of handguns residents will be able to register and possess? Yes, under District law that the Supreme Court did not disturb, automatic and semi-automatic handguns generally may not be registered. Revolvers in the home will be legal and, as before, residents remain free to register most shotguns and rifles. Those with questions about specific firearms should contact the Firearms Registration Section of the Metropolitan Police Department at (202) 727-9490 or visit the Department’s website at Metropolitan Police Department: Gun Registration.
No semi-auto handguns?

Take this dyke and the DC back to court!

I know. It's like they just follow the law when it suits them. I wonder if she checks her gun at the door when she leaves work. I mean after all it's not like she's a street cop, time to turn over her gun I say.
