How about an inductive argument:

(A) The left-most segments of the American Political Left approach an open socialist agenda.
(B) The best information we have on Obama is his Senate voting record.
(C) Obama's Senate voting record is the furthest left during his time in office of any member of the Senate.

therefore

(D) It is reasonable to assume that Senator Barack Obama embraces at least a quasi-socialist if not a fully socialist ideology.

Don't forget Michelle Obama's comments about how "Everyone's going to have to give up a piece of their pie so others can have more". I know she's not running but it does give a good glimpse in to the mindset in the family.
