If you say you're going to sing the national anthem, and then sing something else, you should be booted from the event.
This is just wrong.

liberals won't mind, and i take it she was surrounded by them given that this was in Denver. if this was in Kansas or Mississippi, she may have been physically removed.

This conveniently brings up an issue that I have tossed around in my head lately: that we are starting to lose a sense of identity sourced in our statehood. Our nation was founded with the idea that each state was at least semi-autonomous, and fearful of the central government. The cg was given limited powers, and checked by the itself, the states, and the people. Slowly but surely, most Americans' focus and identity has shifted from local to central. I am an American, but I am a Tennesseean first. Am I unpatriotic?
Why should the national anthem be sung at a city council meeting? Shouldn't the state song be included if not substituted? Or some local tradition? If the tradition was that the national anthem be sung at the commencement of the meeting, then okay I guess, and since that is the case here, then she is wrong. I guess I just wonder why the national anthem was being played, or sung at all at a local government meeting. (did I just hijack a thread?)

What if there is a conspiracy afoot where rights we have as citizens of each of our states are being abridged by the central government by making us forget about our statehood. Pledge of Allegiance in school every morning. National Anthem at all sporting events. National Anthem at city council meetings and state legislature sessions.
I don't even know the official song of the state of Tennessee. I didn't grow up here, but that is no excuse. Man, I'm really hijacking now...I better get back to work.
