I don't know how Bush may be benefitting personally. I'm talking about the benefits to an industry where he and his family have long-standing ties, an industry where he once worked, where he has friends, and where he has received a lot of political support - both in this country and in the Middle East.

The left seems to think everything Bush does or did was to benefit someone or something. what a lousy way to think.

Hey, the Bill Maher joke resonated with a lot of people. It's not something taken out of thin air. You know what they say - "if it quacks like a duck..."

But this is not the emphasis of this post. I'm talking about Bush and McCain using gas prices for political gain.

Maybe they care about their quality of life.

If they are asked to put up or shut up, then we'll see how serious Californians are about making some changes.

Thanks Etta!

Attacking Bush and/or McCain does nothing to solve the problems you want solved. But it is a good , yet futile attempt and does garner some needed attention as you attempt to turn the tables once again.

I wondered why you all of a sudden went silent and stopped responding to my posts. Now I know!

You are lost. That's all I have to say about this retaliation thread, for now.

And you seem desperate. Your attacks on Obama and this drum banging for drilling seem desperate to me.

in 2006 the left claimed that bush raised gas prices and lowered them right before the election, and now they are doing it again.

what will be the excuse and the reasoning if Obama the messiah gets into the office and we're paying $7/gallon? Who will you blame?

Oil platforms 50 miles offshore (i.e. not ruining the view of all the rich people) won't affect quality of life in a bad way. It could bring some jobs over there though...

As many reports have noted, the McCain/Bush policy on offshore drilling doesn’t make sense as a response to $4-a-gallon gas: the White House’s own Energy Information Administration says that exploiting the outer shelf wouldn’t yield noticeable amounts of oil until the 2020s, and even at peak production its impact on oil prices would be “insignificant.”
Hmmm, one could make the same argument that beginning research into alternative energy sources doesn't make sense as a response to $4/gallon gasoline, as we won't see the fruits of that for a long time.

I think Californians prefer high gas prices. After all, they are their own country in many ways.

It's not just rich people who enjoy the beach and clean water.
