Did you listen to Obama in Chicago?

He visited a different church other than the one he "disowned"... Anyhow, did anyone hear him speak? Sounds like Obama talks with a black accent when around his brothers and sisters. Much different that when he is speaking to whitey...

Then again, Hillary has been noted doing the same thing. Panderers, the whole bunch of em'.

When did he disown his Trinity Church in Chicago? Any referance to that.

I know he has taken a huge step away from the Rev Wright who retired from that church.....

A "black accent"? What would that be exactly?

And Hillary has this same "accent"?

I tried to do a little research on where these people may have picked up whatever colloquial inflection in their speech that would overlap (and make them have this undefined "Black" accent).

Here's what I found......which isn't much, but it is what it is.

Obama didn't move to Chicago until after law school. Hillary, on the other hand grew up in the Chicago area.

So as tenuous as their overlapping places of habitation are, it seems that Chicago is the most obvious common denominator (Other than them both being Americans....but I know there are many that would argue that, so I've disregarded that particular element in common between the two).

So now, after having never thought about it before, I have to wonder if I myself have a "black accent"....

Like Obama, I went to school at Columbia in NYC and then moved to Chicago. (Unlike Obama, I never lived in Kenya, but neither did Hillary, so that would seem to be out of the equation),

Anyway, it was there (Chicago) that I met and eventually married a native Chicago gal, so I'm sure her accent must have rubbed off on me to some degree (as mine probably did to her....maybe she sounded less "black" after marrying me, a NY native - (I remember some guy from Brooklyn who was working on my car thought she was French....Seriously!!!!!)

Well, anyway, it's interesting to come to the only conclusion that makes sense in this context.....a Chicago accent is a "Black" accent. Probably South Side even more than the rest of Chicago-land. And sure enough, my wife grew up and went to high school on the South Side!!! (An area that is now predominantly black - but was not when she was growing up there - but still....things develop. Things evolve. So it is entirely possible that what was then a Jewish/Italian/Irish neighborhood gave birth to this "black accent". Sort of a "chicken and egg" conundrum I guess.... Did black people bring the "black accent" to the South Side of Chicago? Or did the South Side give the black people their accent? Certainly a mystery I will ponder in greater depth later (after the US Open is finished - very exciting.....playoff now tied on 14th hole, but Tiger still seems to be in control).

But I digress...........no matter what the exact nature and circumstances of the development of this unique "accent", (or the final results of the Open) I find this all to be extremely COOL!!!.

I feel more colorful already.

Now all I really need is some "sisters". I have two brothers, but no sisters. And my mom's way too old to give birth to any little girls at this point. Major bummer. She's 88, I will however explain the importance and maybe she'll agree and try and conceive in the name of ethnic coolness. Good for me, good for my entire family. Besides, I'm sure my son would also find it beneficial to have a younger aunt or two (or more) - what better way to meet chicks than through your own aunt who is younger than you?

On to the next issue....having someone to call "Whitey". This is actually kind of a sad story in my particular case......actually more than "kind" of sad....in truth, very sad.

I did have a friend called "Whitey"....In fact his real name was Tommy, but everyone called him Whitey 'cause his dad was the very well noted baseball player Whitey Ford. and Tommy, like his dad, had light blond hair - But we were all devastated when Tommy/"Whitey" died about a decade ago from Lyme's disease....bit by a tick in upstate NY and it killed him - slowly and painfully..... Still makes me sad to think about his untimely death.

But not until today did it occur to me that having a friend I could call "Whitey" made me more "colorful"....more "ethnic"....basically more "Cool"....Being "WASPish" is so boring! The further away the better. I'd probably be REALLY miserable and completely full of self- loathing and boredom with myself if my four grandparents weren't all poor persecuted Jewish immigrants who came through Ellis Island about 100 years ago. Not quite as cool as having them arrive on slave ships, but certainly more "colorful" than coming over on the Mayflower. (If my ancestors had come as Vikings before Columbus "discovered" America..... THAT would REALLY be the ultimate in "Cool"!!!!!)

.So now I have no friends that I call "Whitey"......But unlike not being likely to get my mom to provide me (and my brothers) with any sisters, I can probably call some other friends "Whitey" and they wouldn't mind. Every little bit helps when you want to be more ethnic I would think.

Oh, ETA...."Trik396".... I found your opening post to be somewhat racist, worthless and divisive - with an emphasis on "WORTHLESS"....(Just sayin'...in case you didn't catch the drift of the tone of my own post).

This was an issue you believed to be worth starting a thread over???????

You should get out more. And KKK meetings don't count.

People DO speak differently in different venues. Do you speak the same way during a job interview that you do when drinking beer with your friends? You speak the same way to your grandparents that you do to your lovers? (or whatever....).

Peace,
D.

No, I haven't heard Obama's last speech.

As noted, when Hillary campaign's in the south she has a very distinct drawl, says "Y'all" (especially when referring to one person), and uses every folksy turn of phrase imaginable. "See, you gotta bail the hay while the tractor is warm" and stuff like that.

LOL you know, gettin' it down ta our levul cuz'n she's a thinkun u suthernerz' y'all dun luv talk lahk this'n here. See - she's down home too! Her pappy prob'ly dun raised her right up on grits n' tarheel sausage. The chickens come home to roost and you can't close the barn door after the horses are out. C'mon. This'n here is how Hillary done give her fancy book-learnin' speeches when she comes to stump in the Great South. Yee Ha!

I have always thought Obama talked with a strange accent. Hillary, too. Very naisal and a bit irritating...it grates on my southern ears. Thats also my main gripe about Sean Hannity...I could not go more than 2 minutes if that guy's voice.

Who cares how the guy speaks...its usually what he is saying that annoys me far more than how he says it. The fact that he BS-ed the crowd during Memorial Day with his story of a relative that liberated Auchwitz was more annoying than HOW he delivered it. I did not know Obama had Russian/Polish roots...amazing!

Who are you calling "whitey?"

Hey...I resemble that remark!

LOL

D, if you want to pretend that a very large majority of blacks don't speak differently than the rest of the populous, you go right ahead. This typical white person isn't afraid to speak the truth. You can throw stones my way, as you have. Calling me KKK? You don't even know who I am. Keep showing your foolish liberal ways...

btw- I don't drink, use drugs, etc... maybe some caffeine once and awhile.

Never said that blacks don't speak different than other races. Some do...some don't. But doesn't that apply to all races in the USA? Not a big deal, really. I pay more attention to WHAT is said rather than HOW it is delivered.

Speech and writing, in general, in this country has taken a horrible downturn. Blame it on the poor education system or ghetto culture..whatever...but the writing and speech patterns of many Americans under the age of 30 really disturbs me. When did grammar get the boot?

Also, there is PLENTY to criticize and get angry over about Obama without going anywhere near race or any personal mannerisms the guy may have. If you cannot find huge faults in his voting record, views, platform and his past associations and have to resort to picking on the guy for his race or speech pattern...wow...you're not looking very hard at this guy!

He said nothing that has not been said before.
In fact,
If I turned on Oprah or Montel ... I could here the same thing being said by just about anyone who wrote a book or worked with community organizations.

What did he say about his policies and plans for the United States ?
Nothing!

No story exists.
