Aside from guns, what bothers you about Obama as president?

Most people here somehow fear that Obama is going to take their guns away. Below is some info about where Obama stands on guns.

Quote:
Obama Defends Gun Rights With Restrictions
February 16th, 2008 by Ron Chusid

Barack Obama has shown a commendable tendency to stick to his principles regardless of the audience. Obama has argued his position on fuel economy in Detroit and has argued for merit pay for teachers before a potentially hostile teacher’s organization. Today, when it might be politically safest before Democrats to support restrictions on gun rights, Obama continues to defend Constitutional liberties while supporting some restrictions.

It would especially be easy for an Illinois politician to back restrictions on guns after the recent shootings, but Obama has never resorted to taking the easy position. AP reports:
Barack Obama said Friday that the country must do “whatever it takes” to eradicate gun violence following a campus shooting in his home state, but he believes in an individual’s right to bear arms.

Obama said he spoke to Northern Illinois University’s president Friday morning by phone and offered whatever help his Senate office could provide in the investigation and improving campus security. The Democratic presidential candidate spoke about the Illinois shooting to reporters while campaigning in neighboring Wisconsin.

The senator, a former constitutional law instructor, said some scholars argue the Second Amendment to the Constitution guarantees gun ownerships only to militias, but he believes it grants individual gun rights.

“I think there is an individual right to bear arms, but it’s subject to commonsense regulation” like background checks, he said during a news conference.

He said he would support federal legislation based on a California law that would facilitate immediate tracing of bullets used in a crime. He said even though the California law was passed over the strong objection of the National Rifle Association, he thinks it’s the type of law that gun owners and crime victims can get behind.

Five people, including the shooter, were killed during Thursday’s ambush inside a lecture hall. Authorities said the two guns used were purchased legally less then a week ago.

“Today we offer them our thoughts and prayers, but we also have to offer them our determination to do whatever it takes to eradicate this violence from our streets, from our schools, from our neighborhoods and our cities,” Obama said. “That is our duty as Americans.”

Although Obama supports gun control, while campaigning in gun-friendly Idaho earlier this month, he said he does not intend to take away people’s guns.

At his news conference, he voiced support for the District of Columbia’s ban on handguns, which is scheduled to be heard by the Supreme Court next month.

“The notion that somehow local jurisdictions can’t initiate gun safety laws to deal with gang bangers and random shootings on the street isn’t born out by our Constitution,” Obama said.

Campaigning in Ohio, Obama’s rival Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton echoed Obama’s comments.

“Obviously we have to first and foremost do everything we can to take reasonable steps to keep our children safe,” she said. “And while safeguarding and respecting our Second Amendment rights, we have to keep guns out of the hands of criminals, terrorists, gang members and people with mental health problems.”

For gun rights advocates, I guess there is much to find fault with in Obama's statements above.

But what of the other issues? Why do people here fear an Obama presidency? Do you really think much is going to change?

His liberal aganda. Government health care, more government, more social programs, and more nonsensical enviromental regulation and restrictions. I bet money he will hand out more alternative energy subsidies that will not solve anything. Open borders for everyone. A liberal Supreme Court.

That number one thing about him is that he is a Democrat. A Democrat controled Washington scares the hell out of me. The Republican spending orgy was terrible, but the Dems will make that look frugal in comparison. While Obama might preach change, the Democrats in the Legislature have proved they are about nothing but buisness as usual. Blame the Republicans. We will recieve the most nutty legislation in decades.

As I've said before though... If these fears come to pass, and we listen to Republican "conservatives" whine and cry for the next 4 years, just remember to look in the mirror for the root of the problem.

Let's see....

He wants to raise taxes.

He thinks that the constitution is a "living document".

He wants government-run healthcare.

Voted NO on paying down federal debt by rating programs' effectiveness.

He supports the Global Poverty Act

Wants to meet with our enemies, but has not asked to meet with General Petreaus.

Says immigration raids are ineffective.

Supports granting driver's licenses to illegal aliens

Just to name a few...

Frank

It looks like things are being covered fairly well. I'll have to look closer at what other members have said before I can add to the list ..... It's gonna get pretty long ... The man is SCARY.

The story of Obama's stance on guns is a little skewed as well. So ... Here's a view from the NRA.
http://www.nraila.org/pdfs/sg0508.pdf

But within that article ... A few words jump out and scream at most anyone who believes in gun ownership.

That's a very wide open blanket coverage that could mean leave things as they are ... And it could just as easily mean you can keep a Revolutionary War musket.
His record on the issue is enough, and you asked for other than gun items ... So I'll just leave it at that.

I wont argue with the rest, since I just read this:
Obama says he would cut taxes for middle class - Yahoo! News

For every single shred of a good idea he has (and believe me, theyre few), he has 25 bad ideas. Im not really in the mood for $10 a gallon gas because of his "windfall" profit tax. I think most Americans want change, but if Obama is the change, well you can count me right the **** out.

You've got to look more closely. He says he will cut taxes on some people in the middle class, but he will pay for these tax cuts by raising taxes on others and on corporations. It says he will raise taxes on oil companies right in the article you posted.

From Issues2000.org

Reduce Bush tax cuts (which would cause taxes to increase)to pay for health care & other programs. (Jun 2007)

Raise capital gains tax for fairness, not for revenue. (Apr 200

I'm not bashful about it: wealthy will pay more taxes. (Jan 200

Voted NO on raising the Death Tax exemption to $5M from $1M. (Feb 200

Voted NO on repealing the Alternative Minimum Tax. (Mar 2007)

Last thing we need now is a permanent tax cut. (Jan 200

Voted NO on permanently repealing the `death tax`. (Jun 2006)

Voted YES on $47B for military by repealing capital gains tax cut. (Feb 2006)

Voted NO on retaining reduced taxes on capital gains & dividends. (Feb 2006)

Voted NO on extending the tax cuts on capital gains and dividends. (Nov 2005)

Rated 100% by the CTJ, indicating support of progressive taxation. (Dec 2006)

Sure, he claims he wants to lower taxes for those who make under $75k/year. I don't think raising them on everyone else is a good idea. My wife and I make almost that combined and we struggle sometimes. We are making it, but it isn't easy.

Cutting taxes for one (dwindling) class of Americans, but raising for corporations, other income classes, etc doesnt equal out to less taxes. He needs a crash course in Econ 101 sounds like, especially with his "windfall" tax line (hence my comment about $10 a gallon gas, and it will happen, mark my words). Its a good soundbite for those that dont consider the repercussions, which is probably the majority of Americans.

Personally, I think the man is pure concentrated evil.

Oh yeah, Frank, your sarcasm meter, send it out for calibration.

Everything that has been said above is accurate to me.

Let's see... common sense (which a government never has attained) and gun laws... How could Obama stick it to us?

He said he supports hunting... Ok, nothing about hunting in 2nd amendment. So we can all be hunters. But maybe he thinks we shouldn't have access to our firearms as some other country's have done. You must store your firearms in a government lockup and only have access during hunting season for a limited time.. Yeah, I can see him trying that... after all, it's just common sense, Ya Know!!!
He's already signed on in Illinois to BAN ALL HANDGUNS... TO BAN EVERYTHING SEMI-AUTO.
Wake up Etta.
