Gun Control hidden in Global Poverty Act

This has passed? Well we know Obama is in favor of this. Big surprise there, take our guns, hand our sovereignty over to the UN...all in a day's work.

Thanks for bringing this back up. I believe it's important for ALL members here to take another look at this.

Ya know...reading stuff like this day in and day out is enough to just make a person wanna give up fighting to preserve our rights as Americans.

But F 'em. Gotta step back, have a beer, and continue on...

Uh, guys...

1) Treaties aren't self-executing. Congress would still have to pass an actual law banning firearms.

2) We don't always fully adhere to the treaties we sign. Especially stuff we disagree with.

3) Relax. They're trying to take the guns away from small, third-world countries with lots of killing. Not the US.

Okay, you can believe that if you want.

If this goes into effect with the U.S. on board then we all have more concerns than you might realize. "Sorry, we don't want to enact this part but all those other signatory Nations insisted we honor this portion as well. Just go back to sleep, we'll take care of you. Go on now....".

No thank you to the entire Act, not just the 2A portion.

You think? I don't.

All the the hardcore lefties are just begging to turn to the UN to solve not only the worlds problems, but our own domestic problems. Many members of the UN have also voiced concern that American citizens are 'not special' and should not be exempt from any anti-gun laws.

You can believe what you want, but its all about chipping away at our rights. Todays treaties are tomorrows 'law' by default.

Also, if banning handguns in DC does not work, do you really think banning weapons in small, third-world countries will work? If I lived in one of those countries I would for sure want to be able to defend my family...but hey...people thousands of miles away don't like it...so tough sh** to them I guess

Indeed. We have enough problems at home...other countries need to worry about their own issues. F the UN.

Anybody actually read the link: http://www.un.org/millennium/declaration/ares552e.pdf ??????

All it says about guns is:

"To take concerted action to end illicit traffic in small arms and light weapons, especially by making arms transfers more transparent and supporting regional disarmament measures, taking account of all the recommendations of the forthcoming United Nations Conference on Illicit Trade in Small Arms and Light Weapons."

Is there illicit trafficking of guns in the US???? If so, let's crack down on it and apply the laws we have. In so far as the passages relevance to the US ... I don't think there is any. I believe that the UN was referring to arms trading outside the US and probably (IMO) Africa in particluar. I could be wrong in terms of country or region but its applicablility to the US is a BIG stretch.

This whole paranoia that the UN is going to control how the US apply's its gun laws .... give me a friggin break. More of the modis operandi of the "they're gonna take yur guns" "the sky is falling" scare tactics of the past 8 years.
