Would you agree that Atheism does the same?

Communism, officially Atheist, has had a pretty bad track record in the 20th Century.

In just 80 years the death tolls under atheist Communism are something like 65 million in China; 20 million in the Soviet Union; 2 million in North Korea; 2 million in Cambodia; 1.7 million in Africa; 1.5 million in Afghanistan; 1 million in Vietnam; 1 million in the communist states of Eastern Europe; and 150,000 in Latin America.

You're conflating politics and governments with spiritual beliefs and religion.

They are interrelated and inseparable, Jefferson's ideas notwithstanding. Humans aren't abstract academic exercises in objectivity, especially when it comes to setting the policies by which we govern ourselves. No matter the talk of secularism, of separation, behind every corner of every debate on every law or bill, personal beliefs on ethics and religion form the heart of government. Why do you think we argue so much and take this so personally, both here in our little forum and on the national scene? Even Communism understood this--it's why the State attempted to assume the role of God, rather than just saying He didn't exist and being content to leave a vacuum.

Innocent life is cheap--a few hundred bucks for an abortion. Guilty life is expensive--a couple million for appeals, incarceration, and execution. How bass-ackwards is our society?
