For instance, I submit the following: Springfield Armory encorporated a thumb safety in the designs of XDs in 2008. Probably because 1911 shooters like it. Many of them are people who advocate the .45 cal as the service pistol in the Army, instead of the 9mm. Many of these people are in Iraq fighting, and have experienced the lack of take down power in the 9mm. The War in Iraq is the reason SA started putting the thumb safety on XD's. Oh, and by the way, Springfield Armory (a leading player in Big Gun) will probably profit from this. Their Big Gun lobbyists probably bought the ear of the Bush admin. Clearly establishing a financial link between them and Bush. I believe they might be the real winners in the war. Hey, that's like a two-fer. I got to blame big business and insinuate Bush did it for the money! I have to do something in this thread...I sure as hell can't debate Keynesian Economics. I can hardly say it.

Fear not switchfoot .... Big words have never won a debate, and logic always prevails.

So clearly any answer to why the value of the dollar has declined that does not jive with what many people on this forum would like to hear clearly must not be legitimate. Deficit spending does affect inflation, there is ample historical evidence of this, so our involvement in Iraq and the massive costs that go along with that are contributing to a weak dollar. As the Iraq war is one of the largest federal expenditures currently it has bearing on the subject in question, especially since it can be argued well that the war is not making the country any safer nor effectively combating al-qaeda central leadership. It has not proven to be a successful policy and therefore the money being spent there should either be used to lessen the deficit or spent somewhere it will be more effective.
As to logging, yes I care about it. My great-grandfather, grandfather and numerous uncles and cousins worked either for logging outfits or mills. Their industry livelihoods were destroyed by what amounts to corporate crime. I think it is funny that so many here have a blame the victim mentality. I guess you must think that all the people defrauded by Enron must be at fault as well? Why didn't they get their state legislatures to intervene and prevent Enron and their buddies in the white house from ripping them off? Finally, I haven't seen any actual arguments that claim that the current economic theory based on laissez-faire principles is more just or leads to a more healthy economy then Keynesian ones. If you don't know anything about economics then that is on you. I am taking steps to prepare financially for the coming recession and inflation although I can gather many here are not. I do not wish ill upon any of you, but there may come a day in the not so far future when hard times will hit you and yours and you will be asking "why?" No doubt you will be selling off some guns and complaining about how the government screwed you, even when it was the lack of government intervention that lead to your problems. |

The trees are a natural resource. If we burn them ... We can utilize the energy to heat things. If we do other things with them .... We are still utilizing one of our natural resources. Sure Iraq costs money ... So does supporting a welfare system. That's not an attack on your state, by the way. Someone else pointed out that Oregon is a welfare state. What I refer to is the entire welfare system. There are many places where we can cut expenses. IMO, you are just stuck on using Iraq as a cost cutting item. It is one of many items where we spend money within our economy. But cutting costs does not strengthen the dollar, does it ??
