FYI TV show & 270 Illegal Immigrants Sent to Prison in Federal Push

The FYI first
Mexico: Crimes at the Border
Tuesday May 27th, on PBS at 9pm ET

So I guess someone decided to do something ... Rather than just give people a meal & a free ticket home. If we had elections every year ... I guess we could deal with this problem

But the plea bargain stuff .... I wonder if they contacted the people who's identity had been stolen. I wonder if the government plans to help a few people straighten out their lives, or if they will leave them to the will of the IRS.
Side note: The IRS made a co-worker prove his innocence over stolen identify. He had to pay taxes on over $50,000 that he did not earn. As things continue, I suggest that if you do not, that you start getting credit checks on a regular basis, and sign up for something like lifelock!!!

270 Illegal Immigrants Sent to Prison in Federal Push

By JULIA PRESTON
WATERLOO, Iowa — In temporary courtrooms at a fairgrounds here, 270 illegal immigrants were sentenced this week to five months in prison for working at a meatpacking plant with false documents.

The prosecutions, which ended Friday, signal a sharp escalation in the Bush administration’s crackdown on illegal workers, with prosecutors bringing tough federal criminal charges against most of the immigrants arrested in a May 12 raid. Until now, unauthorized workers have generally been detained by immigration officials for civil violations and rapidly deported.

The convicted immigrants were among 389 workers detained at the Agriprocessors Inc. plant in nearby Postville in a raid that federal officials called the largest criminal enforcement operation ever carried out by immigration authorities at a workplace.

Matt M. Dummermuth, the United States attorney for northern Iowa, who oversaw the prosecutions, called the operation an “astonishing success.”

yea baby, that's the way to do it. pick em up, put em in jail for a while, and make em work for free, then send them back home. if we did that all over the US it would deter more from coming here illegally. If not we would get alot of really cheap government labor, and resulting lower taxes. the only thing to add would be to prosecute the businesses that hire them.

It's a start, albeit a small one.

Price of beef just went up.

And under these circumstances, I'm OK with that.

Stiff penalties for businesses will negate the need for the wall. No jobs, no health care, no schooling, no place to reside .... problem solved. How? Proof of citizen ship. Who to enforce? The IRS!

I think I would gladly pay more for the price of beef. Our property taxes would go down to support all the illegal immigrants not paying taxes and going to our public schools. Crime would be vastly reduced, because a good portion of prison populations in the Southwest are illegal immigrants who came here and decied to sell dope, rape, assault, or murder. Our health insurance costs would go down because hospitals that are required to treat illegal aliens for free, wouldn't have to and your medical costs would drop. So, for a reducition in violent crime, property taxes, and exhorbant health care costs I will gladly pay more for my beef.
