Oil's perfect storm may blow over

Oil's perfect storm may blow over

By Ambrose Evans Pritchard
Last Updated: 3:28pm BST 22/05/2008

The perfect storm that has swept oil prices to $132 a barrel may subside over the coming months as rising crude supply from unexpected corners of the world finally comes on stream, just as the global economic downturn begins to bite.
The forces behind the meteoric price rise this spring are slowly receding. Nigeria has boosted output by 200,000 barrels a day (BPD) this month, making up most of the shortfall caused by rebel attacks on pipelines in April.
The Geneva consultancy PetroLogistics says Iraq has added 300,000 bpd to a total of 2.57m as security is beefed up in the northern Kirkuk region.
"There is a strong rebound in supply," said the group's president Conrad Gerber.
Saudi Arabia is adding 300,000 bpd to the market in response to a personal plea from President George Bush, and to placate angry Democrats on Capitol Hill - even though Riyadh insists that there are abundant supplies for sale.

And just imagine what prices would be like if we got 1,000,000+ barrels per day out of ANWR. I could actually drive my truck again.

Well we would need to build more of those refineries. Something that hasn't been done in 20-30 years. I guess the oil companies just don't feel like spending the money on them.

As long as big oil and our government keep a low reserve they can keep the American people under their thumbs. What's so damn hard about this. Yes I'm sure xdconvert will come up with another smartass remark about my post.

Absolutely!!!
We're so tied down by do good/feel good, no common sense, let's tie it up in court BS .... It's a wonder anything happens.

Like I said in the Big Oil meets Congress thread ... Mr. Big Oil should have told Congress to stuff it and damned near requested that a lawsuit be filed. It seems like the only way to wake up the public to all the misgivings of government is to develop some form of public shame and pocketbook squeeze until people give up on the feel good causes that stifle this country.

Perhaps we need to bring back the stockade for a few of these elected welfare recipients.

Oh yea that suck you mentioned .... IMO, it is the sound one hears when common sense walks out the door.

Except for maybe Alaska! The people there want the oil refineries and drilling to help their economy.
