There are countries that are probably jealous of our success, but is that enough to make them attack us or hold our people hostage? That's a ridiculous assumption. They don't like us because we interfere in their business and want to control their resources.
so to make it a level playing field, we are to surrender our superiority and let people walk over us? we did that in the 90's and it did not pan out to well.

He was put into office in 1953 under Eisenhower with a U.S. supported coup. And Carter's friendly relations with the Shah angered radical elements in Iran that took U.S. people hostage.

The U.S. assisted Pinochet in Chile and Noriega in Panama. I will name more later. I have to go to work.

We didn't let people walk all over us in the 90s. That is a myth created by Republicans to blame 9/11 on Clinton. Clinton enforced the sanctions on Iraq (which killed MANY Iraqi children), he got the U.S. involved in several other conflicts during his terms in office.

The people in the middle east who hate us do so because they are miserable. Miserable because of high unemployment rates, low standards of living, and a culture that does not respect human rights. All it takes to turn one of those people into a terrorist is a madrassa, a charismatic communicator, and a group of people to blame for their misery. It worked in Germany in the '30s and has throughout history, frankly.

I will not accept blame for children dying in Iraq during the sanctions. Saddam Hussein bears that blame, along with every Sunni in that country who supported his regime. All he had to do was abide by the agreements he made that ended the Gulf War in '91, and treat his own people with respect. He caused what they got, not America. Enough of that nonsense.

I will not apologize for what we are doing in Somalia, the Balkans, Iraq or Afghanistan. And I will certainly not apologize for terrorist attacks made by maniacal tyrants through mislead, miserable people. I will not accept that blame. All these people have to do is stop and put down their weapons, and the war is over. They are wrong. We are right. I know liberals don't like to hear that, but we are on the side of right.

And before you spout off with a bunch of other places we could be deposing tyrants, feeding the hungry, and healing the sick I will tell you that as far as I am concerned, line them all up in order of precedence you determine and I'll go. I'll go right now and die if necessary if it means one person living in tyranny is liberated. I'll kill as many terrorists and tyrants as I can, because I know all human beings deserve life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. And I am prepared (as I have done in the past and will do in Mar 09 if they don't screw it up) to give my life if it means my family and /or that poor bastard wherever he is can have it. And once he gets it, mobilize all of your peace corps, or UN committees, or whatever the hell else you think will get food and medicine, education, or other services there. All that stuff is worth nothing if a man isn't free.

Wow! I wonder if it was Kevin James that wrote George's speech?!

Kevin James has now taken the lead in the race for most annoyingly obnoxious and uniformed talk show host.

Considering the location, the nature of the event, and that it's an unwritten rule of thumb that lame duck president's stay out of the fray in terms of the upcoming elections ... yeah I was dissapointed as well. Poor judgement IMO.

Nah...that'd still be Al Franken. Is Air America even still on? I heard they were in bankruptcy because nobody wanted to advertise on their programs.

It seems we have the "blame America first" crowd vs. the "America is always right" bunch.
My guess that their is a logical middle ground here, but ideological posturing stands in the way of objective thinking.
