This thread got way too long and has too many little blue quote boxes with writing in them. I'm going to bed.

If your vote is for the lessor of two evils, then you can be comforted knowing that you're less of a fu*king idiot than the other guy!

Its like my dad says: "When youre 18, you have all of the answers, but none of the questions. When youre my age, you have all of the questions, but none of the answers." So much truth wrapped up in that statement!

I am 5ft 9in and weigh 166 pounds. 42 years old.

How do I stay that weight? Well I don't suffer on some crazy diet or eat only organic or fat free this and that. God knows I love Mexican food and drinking Guinness too so its hard.

I do HIIT training on the treadmill for 3-4 miles, M-F. I am a big believer in cardio like HIIT training and don't stand around lifting tons of weights (jeez...thats boring). I am a huge believer in interval training.

I rarely eat fast foods and never drink sugared drinks like Coke or Dr Pepper. I do eat tons of pasta and fruits, but rarely touch salads. I don't drink protein shakes or take any sort of wierd vitamins or suppliments either.

For the most part, I eat normal foods in moderation and that and the excercise and no fast foods and Cokes is the key to not getting fat. It DOES get harder to stay thin as I get older..I have to admit.

Everyone has to find what works for them. However, most people would drop weight like mad if they dumped fast foods and Cokes entirely. I have to say since I dumped them almost 10 years ago...I do feel better, have more energy and no more stomach problems.

That probably won't be enough to keep cancer or other disease from striking if it so desires to, but at least you'll have done what you can to try and stay alive longer.

Similar here. Same height and weight, but I'm a couple of yrs older.

No real special diet. I eat when I'm hungry and don't when I'm not. Sounds trivial...but I see a lot of folks that eat 3 meals a day because that's what 'they should.' I will sometimes eat a small breakfast, if I'm hungry on that particular day. I rarely eat lunch. I work out at least 5 days per week, usually 6. I lift weights though. I lift 3 days per week and drink a frozen fruit, non-fat yogurt shake with protein and water added. If I don't, I actually lose weight. I do something aerobic on 2-3 days per week...e.g., racquetball, basketball, etc. I hate treadmills.

I'm stronger now than I have ever been in my life. When I play racquetball, I play against guys that are 10-20 yrs younger and beat them. I just recently (last few yrs) started playing basketball. I truly suck at it, but I hold my own.

I don't eat fast food or drink soft drinks. Not because of a diet, but I generally don't like them. Every now & then I might have a whopper with cheese or something. But it's the exception.

One thing that I've noticed over the years is that folks that don't exercise and eat fast food get fat. No shock there. But when they do & try to eventually get in a program to work it off, it usually doesn't work. Apparently it's pretty hard to get on the right track when you've been off it too long. So my only advice to younger folks is to stay active and don't stop as you get older. Recovery is much harder than maintaining the status quo.
