Check table #3 for immigration by country and region.
I would say that this chart shows that most of the people who want to come to this country are from countries where there is repression, extreme poverty or lack of opportunity to work.

Yup...That's what I take from it!

I would have to say once again your way off on the Mexicans. They want to live in America. They want to work in America. They want to live in the one country that gives them the hope of living a prosperous and fufilling life.

Sometimes I think you just throw opposing views out to start up a debate, all the time not really believing the stuff you put out there....Thats what it is now isn't it Etta?
Your anecdotal evidence aside, I stand by my opinion. Wouldn't you rather live near your friends and family members than live in a country where they don't speak your language?

As Asia, North America (other) and Europe lead the list in a very general sense with no specific breakdowns in areas within these large countries I would be interested in how you came to that conclusion...from that chart. Is that an opinion rather than info gleaned from the report?

Sure, but one can apparently just move close to your family after they've moved to a newly "adopted" country. Can't they?

I got my info from Table 3 and used the largest numbers in order. I was incorrect, Mexico is #3:

Asia 383,508
North America (Total) 339,355
Mexico 148,640
Europe 120,821

How can one know what areas in Asia and Europe they are migrating from to determine if they're from a challenged area or not?
