I'm curious if anyone knows if the Marine recruiting office in Berkeley stands alone or is alongside the Navy, AF, and Army offices like in many (most?) places? Are these protesters singling out the Marines or do they just happen to have an office where the other branches don't? One thing is for sure....Uncle Buck and others seem to have some strange ideas of what the word "liberal" means. Even by the standards of today's quite distorted but commonly accepted (by many) politically skewed context. I guess it's no more twisted than the meaning of the word "conservative' in the many instances in which self proclaimed "conservative" have virtually no interest in "conservation" of anything but the political status quo. IMHO, these two words..."liberal" and "conservative" have both become so detached from their literal meanings we should drop them entirely from our political lexicon. But on the other hand, maybe even as distorted as the terms have become, it's better than the "blue state/red state" nonsense. Whatever happened to the UNITED States? Peace, D.

They can't shut down a recruitment center, that is vacuuous hyperbole. What are they going to do, overpower the soldiers and lock the doors? What a load of crap. Got news for you, they are allowed to protest.... despite the best efforts of the current administration. |

Yes, I recogniize the sarcasm........ and I am rolling on the floor laughing since you are all bent out of shape at some old women excercising their FREEDOM of political protest which you don't think they should have since their politics don't coincide with yours. I am 100% for Marines, I am 100% sickened at the fact the finest fighting force on eartyh is being wasted in that Iraqi dung hole. But, I am not so petty or paranoid I feel the kneejerk reflex to attack some old women who think that young men shouldn't die for the train wreck foreign policy that is George Bush. I tend to agree with them on that point, but even if I didn't, I wouldn't feel obligated to try to tear them apart for exercising their rights. Marines don't question orders, they just fight. It is we who need to ask questions when they fight and die for stupid reasons or a steaming pile of lies. Did you ever step back and ask yourself why you are so terrified of old women exercising their rights? You remember rights, don't you? It's what we are supposed to be fighting for. BH -
I never attacked free speech. I suggested that the Marines exercise their free speech rights at the homes of these "code pink" chit disturbers. The thrust of my anger lies with the Berkeley City Council waiving the fees normally associated with protests such as these because they obviously value some free speech more than others. I called you a freedom lover because this is a gun board. I assume you post here because freedom is something you value. Believe me - I can insult you better than most, and I am not sorry that you were not offended. I would rather keep the board civil. You wrote: Amazing how it is that any time a group wants to protest the war and prevent kids from being drafted, they are TAKING AWAY SOMEONE'S CHOICE. Name one draftee in this war, amigo. |

Not all old women who want to end the war are hippies.
These old women who want to end the war happen to be hippies though. |
