So basically what you are advocating is that certain citizens by virtue of where they live should no longer have constitutional rights and should have to live under martial law? Is that correct? In the words of Rodney Dangerfield, "Who made you pope of this dump?" Yes, crime is bad in many inner cities. Does that call for taking away the rights afforded to citizens in the bill of rights? I hope not. You claim this is your preference because it could affect your second amendment rights. Well I do not think infringing on the rights of others is exactly the way to ensure the protection of your own rights...To paraphrase Ben Franklin, those who would give up liberty for security will end up with neither. I think he must have been talking about you when he said this.

One thing is for sure, cops in this country have it extremely rough. A thankless, dangerous job with nowhere near enough pay. I would strongly support increasing the pay of LEOs in this country. They deserve it. Yet there are bad cops, like any other profession on the planet. I was once pulled over in a case of mistaken identity (same car make) and was approached by an officer with his service piece out, finger on the trigger etc. I remained calm and kept my hands on the wheel yet when he approached his hand was visibly shaking like Enzo the baker outside the hospital in the Godfather. I did not feel particularly safe at that moment as his finger was on the trigger....Also as I am sure other can attest to, not all LEOs are quite up to par with their shooting ability. Local LEOs qualify at my home range and although some are excellent shots, about 25% really should not be armed in my opinion. From the look of their targets they must put about three to four hundred rounds down range a year.

I think the majority are well trained professionals but bad apples get into the barrel like any other job. That is why I would support more funding for both salaries and training, in the hopes that they could become selective enough to weed out the less qualified that seem to constantly be making headlines. If you want to read about a heartbreaking story check out the killing of Otto Zehm in Spokane, WA a couple of years ago. I was working in the area at the time and it was pretty sad.

Their actions affect you? The actions of cops with the "machine gun the street corners" affect you more. My level of tolerance for the jackboots is at an end. At this point I can't help but wonder if police actually make things any better in large cities like philly and DC and chicago.

Some how "they play by their own rules" is somehow better than the cops playing by their own rules? WHAT A JOKE!

Cops get paid to deal with 'that'. Don't like it? find another job. Can't act like a professional? Get another job.

This is a testament to the truly pathetic state of law enforcement in this country. You sir, are a disgrace.

I didn't see anything racist in his comment. I thought it was actually a pretty good observation--you hear about these types of incidents in places not typically known for racist attitudes toward minorities the way that the South still (somewhat unfairly) bears that stigma.
