Can we win in Afghanistan if this occurs frequently?

If there is any place where are our armed forces will need to stay "100 years" it just may well have to be Afghanistan.

Task Force Saber soldiers wonder if Afghan troops will stay at remote border crossing after they leave

Task Force Saber soldiers wonder if Afghan troops will stay at remote border crossing after they leave | Stars and Stripes

“The true test of this is going to be if these guys stay when we leave,” said Williams, 37, of Chickasha, Okla. “We’re trying to mitigate them packing up and following us when we pull out of here.”

On previous operations meant to secure the Gowardesh and nearby areas, Afghan border police have abandoned their positions as soon as U.S. soldiers pulled out, Williams said.

“We’ve had them beat us down the mountain,” he said.

Hell if they don't want to protect their own country who are we to make them, or do it for them for that matter?

Actually we did. Our problem came from believing NATO gave a damn and that the major partners would do anything - such as defend and train. While some of the 'smaller' partners have stepped up (Canada, Denmark, Poland) the majors germany, france and even britian haven't. The british have been commanded by some of the biggest losers I've seen - very restrictive ROE and almost no patrols. Their goal is to minimize contact. They even made an agreement with the taliban giving them control of some afghan province if I remember correctly. We are probably gonna retake command of the NATO forces.

In addition, we're are against an intelligent resourceful enemy, who has the ability to adapt. You just can't expect the same results as if you're fighting a battle of massed professional soldiers on a battlefield and one surrenders and that's the end of it.

Some folks want a nintendo war - 5 minutes and we're done... just aint gonna happen.

Also, the Afghani's will be fine. They want to defend their own land, they are generally from a more 'warrior culture' than the Iraqi's. They have no great discipline though and very poor training and equipment. Also communication is difficult due to the lack of translators. That is being changed.

Has anybody told the DC comics crew that we have a border, and that some of us don't care about PoppyVille and the securing of their border, first, second, or otherwise.

Lol... Yes, I think your man paul has communicated that msg.... however, I believe there are more of us that do care, who believe that this ultimately will make things better for our kids.... But I happen to think the objects are not exclusive, what we do in Afstan doesn't reduce our ability to defend our borders. The only problem we have there is lack of will by those in power.

Priorities are not DC's strong suit.

Good for him!! To bad the clowns have wax in their ears.

I agree there are more of us that do care. But I don't see it being better for our kids when heroin production is at such a high level.
Besides those of us who care are for the most part not able to effect a solution. Those who work the political arena, seem to care while disregarding this countries security at home.
But in the end, it is all for the best.
What was the reason for going into Afghanistan ???
Oh yea, corner the opium market ... No ... Kill some guy who was behind 911 ....

Did we do that, yet ???

Well go lend them your leadership then.
