"Red Barchetta" RUSH

Flashback. I went camping a few years ago and one evening the guy in the next campsite over whipped out an acoustic guitar and played a flawless rendition of this song from beginning to end. I damn near cried it was so good. Good times, good times..

We now return you to your regularly scheduled thread topic.

2001 Ford Lightning, lets not discuss mileage. Maybe $10/month in gas. Paid for.

Insurance for the above: $250 (full coverage on all)
Tags/yr for the above: $180

Total cost per month: $725

How am I supposed to save money by getting a more fuel efficient vehicle when I can't make a payment on a nice vehicle for that? Sure, I could get some stripped down POS-mobile, but I've done my time in those. A motorcycle would be nice except that it won't do what I need it to and my daily commute on a bike would be a death sentence.
Well, then I guess you have made your choice and decided to accept the your costs as is. They way I see it you have options available and they dont have to include taking on more debt. Sell one or more of those and buy a used car that gets better mileage - you can keep your F150 and maybe save money on insurance. There are many used models that get as good or better mileage then new models - of course then you would have to change your user ID..

That's like telling someone to sell their kids to buy a dog, it just ain't right.

You are correct, though. I have made my choice. Do I like gas prices? No, not at all. Less than a decade ago I could put 30 gallons of gas in the F-150, get a Pepsi and candy bar, hand the clerk a $20 bill and get change back. I can live with the price but reserve my first ammendment right to bitch about it all I want.

Gas prices don't dictate my existence, nor do they dictate the existance of most people. The difference is that I pay for my gas as I go and can afford to do so, mainly because I don't see the point in buying a new car every few years just to make myself feel like I'm somebody. Most people just swipe the card and pay 20% interest on it for the rest of their lives. Those are the people that need to look at doing something else for transportation.

BTW, if I sold the Lightning what would I replace it with? There's going to be a toy in the garage regardless, so why get a new toy when I really enjoy the one I have now. I couldn't buy a decent, reliable, comfortable used car for what I could sell the Lightning for anyway. Not that I would ever sell the Lightning. Sparky, if you're listening, this is a purely hypothetical conversation.

If we did that we would be using our own resources instead of buying up someone elses, so that when all the oil is gone everywhere else in the world we will still have ours and the rest of the world will just come and take it from us.

So budget for it. Have you talked to the insurance agent about categorizing it as a recreational vehicle ?? It might save a little $$ for the tank

Gore's nutty idea
Gore proposed last week that the United States "commit to producing 100 percent of our electricity from renewable energy and truly clean carbon-free sources within 10 years."

Not just all new electricity, mind you, which would be challenging enough. But all existing electricity, too.

Sounds good,
But a guy was on CNN the other day stating that if they got the go ahead today ... it would be 10-15 years before we had a steady supply.

Doesn't sound like the bubble will ever pop if things like this keep happening:

LAGOS (Reuters) - Royal Dutch Shell shut down more of its production in Nigeria after a fresh militant attack on Saturday on a flowstation in the restive Niger Delta, where local militants have stepped up a campaign of violence.

Budget for what?

It costs more to insure it as a play toy and the coverage isn't nearly as good.
