Well, York peppermint patties were my favorite candy. I guess I'll start looking for a new favorite unless their new found cheap labor results in a corresponding price reduction.

It doesn't matter who is doing the work, the world will always have poor and homeless people. The only difference is that when we ship jobs overseas or south of the border the result is more poor and homeless here. Our standard of living is the best in the world because we're greedy bastards. That is all going to change when our greed puts too many people out of a job and leaves nobody to buy the half ass products we have made in Mexico, China, or Singapore.

The Teamsters have nobody to blame in this but themselves and other organizations like them. Labor unions are doing their fair share to kill this country by artificiailly inflating salaries with disregard to productivity, forcing excessive restrictions on work environments, and requiring unreasonable benefits packages. I know that won't be a popular opinion for many, but when a guy pushing a broom makes more money, has more vacation, and gets a better benefits package than his boss's boss because he's in the union there is something very wrong.

I didn't like peppermint patties anyway. I however don't care for my food products being produced outside of the U.S. Not sure I trust thier quality control and attention to cleanliness.

RtL, that's what's so frustrating to me. Toyota, Nissan, BMW...all these companies have shown that American workers can build a kickass car AND be profitable. But the UAW insists on making their demands, and killing GM and Ford in the process. Michigan's employment market SUCKS right now, and I know there are Michiganders who would jump at the opportunity to work in Flint or Detroit for less than what the UAW is currently demanding from the auto companies. But the UAW in its selfishness would rather keep those people out of work, and force higher wages for a smaller group of people.

I'm a 22 year Teamster, but I agree with everything you just stated......

If people were actually willing to pay more for a product made by an better paid worker, in a cleaner environment, with better environmental regulation and paying more taxes becuause peppermint is addicting and adds to (government) health care costs, then they wouldn't move to Mexico....
But they're not....
so I'll have to eat Andes.
From Wikipedia: "
Andy's Candies was started by Andrew Kanelos, a Greek immigrant who traveled alone to the U.S. when he was 12. He began selling several types of boxed chocolates in 1921. Products were sold on the store's premises. Eventually, a factory was built, and the business expanded into a chain of retail stores which also had ice cream parlors attached. The company was renamed Andes Candies because Andy decided that men did not want to give their sweethearts boxes of candy with a man's name on the box. He changed the spelling and added the logo and slogan: "Andes, the peak of all candies". In 1950, the "Crème de Menthe" was added to the chocolate, placed in between two layers of chocolate.[1] Andes Candies was obtained by Tootsie Roll Industries in 2000.[2]"
That my friends, is the american dream as it should be.

funny how the government is trying to kill the oil and gas business right now....and it's right here in the good ol' USA....not outsourcing or anything....mostly nonunion labor and great money to be made!!!

not trying to threadjack here but it seems that successful businesses like oil and gas should be allowed to prosper in this country...instead of holding it back like the enviro's and democrats want to do...

also...plenty of work out there but you must be able to move to it if need be...

Well, hopefully, Tootsie Roll won't decide they can't afford to manufacture in the United States and take their operation to Mexico too!

Did a little research on the chocolate
candy thingie.

Hershey is producing the 'Dove' brand
here in the US of A. I have seen it on
the shelves, but at $2.99 for a 4 oz.
fancy little bag of it, I will pass...
because $12.00 per pound is a little
bit pricey for me.
