Thumbs down Peanut Prez Strikes Again....

Jimmy Carter, always doing what he can to promote Palestinian extremists, undermining US foreign policy, at the expense of his own country... meeting with a designated foreign terrorist organization. I still wonder how the Hell he got elected, even after the Nixon/Agnew years. At least the electorate kept him from a second term. Guess he's just trying to make up for opportunity (to further ruin the US) lost be not winning re-election.

Report: Jimmy Carter to Meet With Hamas Leader in Syria
Tuesday, April 08, 2008
By Joseph Abrams

NEW YORK CITY — Former President Jimmy Carter is reportedly preparing an unprecedented meeting with the leader of Hamas, an organization that the U.S. government considers one of the leading terrorist threats in the world.

The Arabic-language newspaper Al-Hayat reported Tuesday that Carter was planning a trip to Syria for mid-April, during which he would meet with Khaled Meshal, the exiled head of the Palestinian terror group Hamas, on April 18....

...Meshal, who lives in Syria to avoid being arrested by the Israeli government, leads Hamas from his seat in Damascus, where he is a guest of Bashar al-Assad's regime.

The State Department has designated Hamas a "foreign terrorist organization," and some groups hold Meshal personally responsible for ordering the kidnapping of Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit. State Department spokesman Sean McCormack once said of the prospect of meeting with Meshal, "That's not something that we could possibly conceive of."

Some Carter critics called the latest reports typical of the ex-president.

“It’s about par for the course from President Carter, demonstrating a lack of judgment typical of what he does," said John Bolton, former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations. "To go to Syria to visit Hamas at this point is just an ill-timed, ill-advised decision on his part."

I’m not surprised that Carter would do this, as he has been supporting Palestinian extremism for many years,” said Steve Emerson, director of the Investigative Project on Terrorism, a watchdog group.

Carter would be the first Western leader of his stature to meet with the Hamas chief. Though Meshal met with Clinton officials in the 1990s, the Bush administration has sought to isolate Hamas, enforcing rigid sanctions on its government in Gaza and refusing to meet with its leaders unless it recognizes Israel and abandons terror.

“I think this [visit] undermines the U.S. policy of isolating Hamas,” said Emerson. “I think this encourages Europeans to further dilute their sanctions against the Hamas government.

"When you put the prestige of a former president of the United States in a meeting with one of its terrorist leaders, you’re giving it a legitimacy and currency it never had,” said Bolton.

But Ibrahim Hooper, communications director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, a non-profit advocacy group (added: CAIR an "non-profit advocacy group" ), said Carter's efforts demonstrate he's a true partner in peace.

“I think if true, this report would indicate that President Carter is willing to travel any road in search of peace,” he said. “I think President Carter would only undertake such a mission if he believed that something could be achieved in terms of peace and reconciliation in the region.”

Hooper added that because of Carter's reputation among Palestinians he might be able to bring some pressure to bear.

Obviously President Carter has a great amount of credibility in the region because of his past efforts seeking peace internationally,” Hooper said.

The Al-Hayat report stated that Carter would be traveling in his capacity as head of the Carter Center, and not in his capacity as a former president.

“That’s a distinction that’s absurd,” said Emerson. "Maybe he’ll give up his pension, but he’s always a former president,” said Bolton.

Wow. I wonder what the GOP will do if carter ever dies.... they will need to invent a new whipping boy to blame the world's problems on. maybe John Murtha? Yeah, maybe carter's take on the ME is not in line with official US policy... but look where the blind and unconditional support of Israel has gotten us over time.

And, I agree he may be talking with terrorists. Exactly how will anybody ever stabilize the region if they don't? And BTW..... if we are throwing the "T" word around, there is such a thing as State Terrorism. You know.... when a country invades it's neighbor to "root out terrorists" and kills five or six hundred civilains as collateral damage? Not that I am implying Palestinians are human and that their lives have value..... I'm just saying sonme people might think their lives were actually worth something.

Citizen Carter can visit whomever he pleases. He holds some celebrity, but no power. It's a complete non-issue.

Guess he's just trying to make up for opportunity (to further ruin the US) lost be not winning re-election.

I don't think his motive is to "further ruin the US". I doubt there is anything he can do there to influence Hamas or anyone else in the region. He is recognized as someone who wants to broker peace in the region and I'm sure they find that amusing at best, but I'm willing to let him have his day with Hamas and the Syrians. What's the worst that could happen?

I wonder if there is a volunteer-type organization where you can sign up to go talk to the terrorists?

Perhaps the family of Danny Pearl and others who were beheaded might have that information.

I'll check on it and get back to you.

You can't talk to terrorists. Its like asking a tree not to drop its leaves so you don't have to rake. You can talk till you are blue in the face, but it does what it does no matter what you say.

good thing reagan didn't go talk to the filthy Reds and talk to them about tearing down that wall.

its not like talking for a while may save lives by overting crisis, or anything.

i mean really, i guess you just have to kill everyone who disagrees with you, and never find out why.

oh yea, they hate our freedom. yet when the country was first formed, it took from july4th 1776, to 1784 when our first vessel was attacked by the barbary pirates in their own waters. not condoning the attack, but it serves well to remember.

now fast forward to 1970s, when the terrorists took over the embassy. where exactly were all these terrorist attacks on our country in between?

heck, if you consider boarding and pirating ships acts of terrorism, then we might as well throw ourselves in that boat.

here's an example
Quote:
If a privateer captured an enemy ship (known as a prize), an admiralty prize court had to approve the seizure. Then, the proceeds from the sale of the prize and its cargo were shared among the owners and crew of the privateer according to a pre-arranged contract.
hardly an act of terrorism. hardly muslim extremism either. we did the same thing, paid people to attack our enemies, and let them keep the spoils.

its privateering. not terrorism.

now, let's address the fact that we were obviously more free when the country was begun. i note this because only government can remove your freedom by force, legally.

so as our government grew, obviously we became less free.

why did it take until 1976 for terrorists to attack us (on their own land, strangely), when they hate us for our freedom, which had markedly been restricted since the Federation's birth?

i might add that just 20 years prior in the fifties we DID overthrow the elected government of said "terrorist country," to install our own puppet government.

The gist of military intelligence, and pretty much any other government program I can think of.

Jimmy Carter, a president that was known at the time for his foreign policy disasters, is not held on a pedestal as some sort of foreign policy genius.

Carter is a docuhenozzle. His ability to deal with mideast terrorists is well established; just not in the direction he'd like you to believe.
