And I thank you because I did not mean any offense. By real American I mean one who defends her if called to do so, and one who loves her warts and all. One who does what they have to do in spite of whatever fears they may have. I will say I am proud of my military service and I don't see that as a bad thing and if you do Kev then the problem lies with and not with me.

In the context of Iraq or Afghanistan why not just do things right from the get go?

I don't have one iota of a problem with military service ... yours or anyone else's. I very much support our troops knowing full well that a very small amount of my countrymen are doing what the vast majority can't or won't.

What I took exception to was the assertion (perhaps I misinterpreted) that being a military person makes you a real American. Heck, if you look at your quote above you say "By real American I mean one who defends her if called to do so". So I am 43 y/o and can't join even the Guard so can't be called to defend the country from a military perspective. So I guess I am not a real American?

Our government and it's policies and administrations are not and should not be immune to serious castigation from time to time. As the saying goes I love my country but I fear my government. Criticizing the government does not mean the person doing so is not a "real American."

I think you are deliberately misunderstanding me. By defend I don't mean in the armed service. Just be ready to what you are called to within your capabilities. I hope I am being clear now

I apologize for this remark. I'm not getting enough sleep lately and am kind of quick to fly off the handle.

I am going to take a very deep breath here and try not to misconstrue what you just asserted.

I am not "deliberately misunderstanding" you. How do you feel about the accusation that you are deliberately being evasive in your answers or manipulating quotes? I am no more "misunderstanding" you than you are being evasive or manipulative.

As previously mentioned I am a 43 y/o male who does not fall into an age bracket that would allow me to enter into the armed services of my country. So what exactly would I need to be ready to do to help my country in the context of what you have said so far?

You can bet your sergeants' chevron or your captains bars that within my professional ability to help you I would, but to suggest that only service people are real Americans is a spit in the eye of the very people who do support you and to those you need support from.

Unifrom or no I am EVERY bit a real American as you are.

My, oh my... look at where this thread has wandered.... fourteen pages of often aggressive, angry, heated rhetoric, sometimes personal attacks... all caused by Jimmy Carter. And, that's within the borders of the US, amongst reasonable people! Any wonder why a visit with Hamas by Jimmy was a bad idea?

Do you remember why Ms. Lilly wanted Jimmy to run for president instead of Billy? She knew Jimmy couldn't run the tavern.

I in no way meant to imply that you were not a real American. I get a little to passionate at times. I apologize if I was offensive and belligerant.
