They also won't be as ready to change the mission and spread Democracy.

'Death to Ahmadinejad,' Iranian crowds cry
Mar 21, 2008
UPI
Many Iranian youths rallied in streets across the country, shouting "Death to Ahmadinejad," in celebrations marking the end of the Persian calendar year.

The last Wednesday of the Persian calendar is celebrated as the Fire Festival in Iran, with bonfires and firecrackers marking the occasion.

In the western city of Ahvaz, angry mobs declared "Freedom is our legitimate right" while demonstrators in the western city of Sanandaj shouted "Death to (Iranian President Mahmoud) Ahmadinejad," Ynetnews reported Wednesday.

The police in Tehran were out in force and, though they were met with a barrage of firecrackers, the situation didn't escalate beyond what is typical for the Fire Festival, local reports cited in the news report said.

Ahmed Raza-Radan, the police chief in Tehran, warned demonstrators against violating the rule of law in a news conference.

"The police force has resolved to detain any party-goers who break the law. The secret police will have full control, and will not hesitate to photograph citizens for evidence," he said.
Of course someone will most likely say the above article is propaganda because it is from an Iranian newspaper.

Yeah, like maybe to 1953?

It's well-known that there are a lot of Iranians who are unhappy with their government. If it came from a state-run newspaper, you'd expect them not to report any protests, so I believe that article.

Protests are often squashed--I recently read about a building on a college campus that was bulldozed because the government didn't like the kind of speech that was going on inside.

The fact that the Iranians seemingly are much more vocal about wanting freedom than the Iraqi's were makes me believe that it would actually be easier to overthrow their government and establish something in its place.

Iran's leaders have gotten into power and stayed there by preaching and promoting hatred of all things "Western", including our ally in the region. They can't let up now, even if it makes sense for them politically. It is all they have to rally their citizens behind them.

Is this about Bush or Iran? I was under the impression it was about Iran being a nuclear threat, and I see no reason why it isn't. I think it should be blown off the map, along with all the other carpet-riding countries.

But that's just me

I'd say it's kind of early to tell. It could go either way.
Bush sucks!
Bomb Iran!
Just repeat this until the thread makes a turn

One main reason the voices for democracy and liberalization are spreading is that the US has installed a democracy in Iraq - it's contagious and gives encouragement to the Iranians... not to mention we're in a better position to uh, offer some aid here and there..

The two are related.
