bush approval rating hit new low (again)

Poll: Bush's approval hits new low - CNN.com

Quote:
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Just 31 percent of Americans approve of how President Bush is handling his job, according to a poll released Wednesday, the fifth anniversary of the start of the Iraq war.
A new poll out Wednesday finds that 67 percent of those surveyed disapprove of President Bush.

Sixty-seven percent of those questioned in a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey disapprove of the president's performance.
The 31 percent approval number is a new low for Bush in CNN polling, and 40 points lower than the president's number at the start of the Iraq war.
"Bush's approval rating five years ago, at the start of the Iraq war, was 71 percent, and that 40-point drop is almost identical to the drop President Lyndon Johnson faced during the Vietnam War," said CNN polling director Keating Holland.
"Johnson's approval rating was 74 percent just before Congress passed the Gulf of Tonkin resolution in 1964, which effectively authorized the Vietnam War. Four years later, his approval was down to 35 percent, a 39-point drop that is statistically identical to what Bush has faced so far over the length of the Iraq war," he said. Watch Bush speak on the fifth anniversary of the war »
Predictably, Democrats and Republicans don't see eye to eye when it comes to Bush: 64 percent of Republicans approve of Bush's job performance, while just 9 percent of Democrats do.
The president's approval rating has been below 35 percent since October and has not cracked 40 percent since September 2006.
Don't Miss
Still, Bush's approval number is still better than the lowest number for his father, George H.W. Bush, who bottomed out at 29 percent in July 1992; Jimmy Carter, who fell to 28 percent in June 1979; Richard Nixon, at 24 percent in July and August of 1974; and Harry Truman, who dipped to 22 percent in 1952.
"Lame-duck presidents presiding over unpopular wars or struggling economies have gotten low approval ratings in the past." Holland said.
"By contrast, lame ducks like Ronald Reagan, Dwight Eisenhower and Bill Clinton had robust approval ratings in their final years in office, but each one was presiding over good economic times and a country at peace."

The CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll was conducted by telephone with 1,019 adult Americans from Friday through Sunday.
The survey's sampling error is plus or minus 3 percentage points.
I'm surprised it's that high... wait till December, I predict he'll barely have a 25% approval rating.

Bush lovers are always quick to point out that no matter how low his number gets, it's usually still a few clicks above what they give congress....

Did that source post the approval ratings for the Senate and House? If so, could you post those numbers?
Thanks.

I haven't seen them lately but it's usually about 5% less than Bush.

Here's a link to a poll sight on congress:

Congress: Job Ratings

I think they are mostly in the 20 - 30% range for approval.

7/10 Americans say the Iraq war is hurting the American economy...funny how many people don't have a clue about how economics work.

The spending on defense in WW2 was over 30%...

Part of the problem with the war spending is a significant enough portion of that spending is being spent in foreign markets.

I know one thing: prolonged war is cyanide to economic growth. Just look at the DOW from 1966 to 1974 when Viet nam was running.

same poison going on the last six years.

The war is hurting the economy but not nearly as much as it will hurt in the future when the $5 Trillion cost has to be carried on the backs of the next generation.

Thanks! Amazing, after nearly two years in the majority, both Houses still rank lower in approval, and higher in disapproval, than an unpopular president.

The problem with the war spending is they are spending trillions of dollars of borrowed money they can never payback and the rest of the world is starting to look at us like another third world nation who will never be able to pay our bills, and they are devaluing our money accordingly.

Well, when youre at the bottom, its hard to go anywhere but up. Although, if you handed Congress a shovel, they would start digging.
