I think Obama's relationship with this minister and this church is going to cause him some major problems. I frankly don't see how he can win nationally with this type of connection.

In fact the Equal Rights Act (of which EOE is a part) actually helped me. In a summer job during college I found out another guy who was doing the same job as me got paid more because he was older and married. That was illegal, and I went to the human resources dept. and got a raise with back pay.

If you think you are being discriminated against for being young and white maybe you need to re-assess your abilities and value in the job market. Or get a lawyer....you would have a case worthy of a Supreme Court decision.

Really man....reality check time for you. Why not ask some non-white or people over 40 who you may know if they would trade places with you?

Peace,
D.
D,
I didn't actually have this happen directly to me. I took a different route and didn't end up applying for the job. The story behind it is, I was getting married and needed to find a job closer to where we were going to be living. One of the biggest employers for the area is a company that builds some of the rockets for the space shuttle. I had some friends that work there, both as management and base level employees. My friend that is an engineer for them told me that it took him forever to get hired on there and that it took him a long time to move up because of all the criteria (certain numbers of women and/or minorities that had to be hired and promoted before another white male could) that had to be met in order to not lose their federal funding. He is a close friend that has had first hand experience with the other side of EOE. My other friends hadn't ran into it as much. I guess being paid laborers there isn't as much of a competition there. They are more the train em as you go jobs. Its the higher waged, higher education jobs where the pinch of EOE is felt, I guess. I'm glad that it worked in your favor, but it seems like there are just as many opportunities for it to go the other way as well. I don't know if you remember me from the P32 conversations we had. I really appreciate your opinion. But like I said, I haven't actually had any personal experience with it, I'm just basing my opinion on others experiences. Luckily I've been able to avoid having to work for that big of a company. I like working for companies that I'm more than just a number to them. Its a lot harder for a company to fire or lay off Quentin than it is to do the same to employee number 96552.

Unfortunately I think you are wrong. I think he is going to win and it is just going to confirm my standing that America is full of sheep who are too stupid to see the wool being pulled over their eyes.

Now Obama is trying to dupe us into believing that he "wasn't aware" that his pastor of 20 years made outrageous comments like these. Does anyone really believe that? This guy was the officiant at Obama's wedding and baptised both his children. After sitting and listening to his sermons for 20 years he didn't know that he is prone to these kinds of remarks

I also heard someone say that experience doesn't matter with Obama because "he is smart enough to surround himself with intelligent and experienced people".

Well, this pastor his is own personal "spritual adviser". If he's not smart enough to pick a spiritual adviser, then I don't trust him to pick a secretary of state and secretary of defense....amongst other positions.

If Obama had any decency, he would immediately quit this Church and denounce all of the offensive and racist comments this man has made.

That would seem like nothing but political posturing to me.

If he quit the Church and denouced the guy, it would be a lot more convincing that saying, "Gee I've been going there 20 years and I never knew he made those kinds of remarks....but if he is saying things like that then I don't agree" and then continuing to donate and letting they guy serve as his spiritual adviser.

I completely understand what you are saying...and while I acknowledge that I can't read minds; the only plausible motivation I can find for Obama to do such a thing is to make himself look better to some segment of the electorate. Given the timing, I simply won't believe that he's had a legitimate change of heart.

ahhh....I see what you mean.

Yes, I agree--even if he quit I doubt I would believe he was sincere either. However, it would probably convince some of the dems who are worried about this issue.

Thanks,

Frank

I am pretty sure that a large section of people that vote left or are supporting Obama already share the views of Reverend Wright. Its probably nothing new to any of them.

Are these views wrong? Of course they are, but I am sure that the "exposure" of Obama's race-baiting pastor will not turn many of his hardcore supporters away. Many of these people always see division, problems and corruption and will twist their world to fit their beliefs. To some...slavery never went away and their whole reason for being is to keep the hatred and division going. Its the only thing that fuels them.

You can show them examples of successful black people all day long. You can show them empirical evidence that black people gathered their own peoples up for loading on the European slave ships on the Gold Coast and they don't care. You can tell them of many whites that were killed fighting for the Union in the Civil War or died, trying to bring civil rights in the South and that means nothing. Show them evidence that well over 90% of the white population never owned slaves and many white Americans came to America after slavery ws abolished and again, they don't want to hear it. They see light skinned peoples and this means the enemy and the cause of all their problems no matter what.

Its sad that a large part of our society feels this way, but some people are born angry and will forever have a chip on their shoulder or feel animosity towards others. Theres really nothing we can do about these people and its not our duty to change their minds...is it?
