It is time to stop the gun violence in America.

I suggest, no I demand (!), that we put a end to this crap.

This is just an idea, and I just came up with it. I'm sure it's not a new idea, but here it is...

I suggest that we get back to our roots here in America. It's time for the people to take there own personal protection back into there own hands.

There are hundreds of thousands, if not a million or more, people in this country that are willing to act. The states should support and encourage this. A regulated militia service should be put in place. Members of this service would be volunteers, they would supply there own weapons, they would attend a mandatory and standardized class on defensive tactics, safety, and marksmanship of not less than 40 hours, with at least 8 hours of refresher training a quarter. They would supply there own weapons and ammunition. They would elect there own officers, and even may be required to pay for part of there training. These people would NOT be used for law enforcement, they would be normal citizens, living there normal lives, yet posses the knowledge, and weapons to act in response to violence.

I would go for something like this!
Just an early idea, I would love to get some feedback on it. I'm thinking maybe evening doing a web page or something....

i wouldn't mind seeing mandatory training and some sort of requirement to get your concealed carry, but basically, the laws surrounding self defense are pretty much written to allow you to defend yourself and many states are considering passing a law that allows you to engage threats to other people.

a person at the virginia tech shooting with a concealed carry permit would have been in the confines of the law to engage that shooter. perhaps not the rules of the university, but the person would not face legal ramifications had someone chosen to open fire at the shooter, as long as there wasn't anyone else harmed by your actions.

I understand what you're saying, but what would we need the militia for? we're not under attack from other countries or from tribes of native americans? i guess i'm not really sure how a local militia would be better or faster to respond than a police force. Other than individuals responding in self defense, a militia really isn't necessary, that is, unless i'm misreading what you're saying.

I was thinking of something much more defined than a CCW permit holder. Much better trained, and with some type of... I don't know, governmental regeneration and encouragement. Some cooperation between police and citizens.

These would be citizens entrusted... no, empowered, to act when faced with violence.
