Remember, calling an illegal alien an "undocumented worker" is like calling a drug dealer an "undocumented pharmacist"

It's good to be politically correct.

il·le·gal
–adjective 1.forbidden by law or statute. 2.contrary to or forbidden by official rules, regulations, etc.: The referee ruled that it was an illegal forward pass.

al·ien
–noun 1.a resident born in or belonging to another country who has not acquired citizenship by naturalization (distinguished from citizen). 2.a foreigner.

Just to be clear, if somebody wants to come to this country they need to follow the laws and get in line to enter legally.

With that said, I just want to point out that the majority of illegals work over-the-table and the majority of those that do also file taxes. You might think that this would be a way to identify (and deport) illegal immigrants. You would be wrong. The IRS will not share information for the purpose of identify illegals, and this is made clear by community leaders and tax preparers. This is really the perfect example of the conflicted stance our government has towards illegal immigrants.

There are bona fide tax preparers who specialize in doing taxes for illegals. The illegal immigrant can use a taxpayer ID even though they don't have a valid social security number. (They will use a fake or stolen one to get the job.) The IRS gets millions of W-2s with social security nmbers that don't match the name on the tax forms, and the majority of these come from states with large immigrant populations.

Why file their taxes? They are doing it because if they are ever given the chance to become a citizen, or at least legal residency, they can say that they were playing by the rules (except for entering illegally in the first place). Of course, they are also likely to get back some of their tax dollars due to low income or dependents. (In this respect, the government would likely rather they didn't file their taxes.)

Regardless of how you use these facts in a debate, it is simply the case that illegals pay taxes, including sales taxes on goods and services. They also pay into a social security system that desperately needs revenue. In some cities and towns, this makes up a large percentage of tax revenue, especially sales taxes.

Illegals do put a strain on social services, but not anywhere the strain created by legal residents who are poor. Legalization would practically guarantee all of them that qualify would pursue those services.

No, not all illegals pay taxes (except sales taxes). You can't ever know exactly how many illegals are getting paid under the table and/or aren't filing their taxes. The dirty truth understood by budget analysts is that policing a system is incredibly expensive and there is a point that it makes more short-term financial sense to accept a certain level of illegal activity. (Same goes for the welfare system in general.) I'm not saying that is right or not, but it is the reality.

U.S. tax agency scrutinizes more middle income earners

U.S. tax agency scrutinizes more middle income earners
Quote:
Middle-class Americans, listen up: The U.S. Internal Revenue Service is much more likely to audit you this year. Those caught cheating can expect to pay about $4,100 more on average in income taxes.

Since 2000, the tax authorities have nearly tripled audits of tax returns filed by people making $25,000 to $100,000 as part of a broad change in audit strategy.

Audits of these middle-class taxpayers rose to nearly 436,000 last year, up from about 147,000 returns in 2000. For these 61 million individuals and married couples, who make up nearly half of all taxpayers, the odds of being audited rose from 1 in 377 to 1 in 140.
Well, I guess that covers that. It is another attack upon the middle-class.
Hmmmm
I guess they figured out who makes the money.............

Two more interesting tidbits about our lovely income tax system.

First, the object of every working taxpayer should be to wind up as close to "zero" at the end of their 1040 as possible. Not owing or paying very much. Last year, I came the closest yet at getting 31 bucks back from Uncle Sugar. This year I have to pay 240 bucks (only because of some earnings I made in a Euro based mutual fund and the Euro went up in value...so more gains tax I pay). Withholding is NOT to be viewed as a savings account. If you are getting a large sum back...guess what...you just gave the govt. a no-interest loan on your earnings for most of the year. Why did you do that? Shame on you.

Second, one of the biggest red flags to the IRS that will get an individual audited is taking too many big deductions or getting very large refunds year after year. I heard this directly from a guy that used to work for the Dallas IRS office and I am pretty sure he would not BS me. Know when to say when on deductions...unless you are 100% sure you can back all of the deductions up with receipts or papers or they'll hammer you.
