Question A Tale Of Two Houses

For those who doubt, check out http://www.snopes.com/politics/bush/house.asp

HOUSE # 1:
This house has 20-rooms (not including 8 bathrooms) and is heated by
natural gas. In addition, there is a pool (and a pool house) and a
separate guest house all heated by gas. In an average month, this
house consumes more energy than the average American household in an
average year.

The average bill for electricity and natural gas runs over $2,400 per
month. In natural gas alone, this property consumes more than 20
times the national average for an American home. This house is not in
a northern or Midwestern "snow belt". It's in the South.

HOUSE # 2:
Designed by an architecture professor, this house incorporates every
"green" feature current home construction can provide. The house
contains only 4,000 square feet (4 bed rooms) and is nestled on arid
high prairie in the American southwest. A central closet in the house
holds geothermal heat pumps drawing ground water through pipes sunk
300 feet into the ground.

The water (usually 67 degrees F.) heats the house in winter and cools
it in summer. The system uses no fossil fuels such as oil or natural
gas, and it consumes 25% of the electricity required for a
conventional heating/cooling system. Rainwater from the roof is
collected and funneled into a 25,000 gallon underground cistern.
Wastewater from showers, sinks and toilets goes into underground
purifying tanks and then into the cistern. The collected water then
irrigates the land surrounding the house. Native flowers and shrubs
native to the area blend the property into the surrounding rural
landscape.

HOUSE #1 is outside of Nashville, Tennessee.
It is the private residence of Al Gore
You may remember him. Mr. "Global Warming" or, as he's also know,
Mr. "I Invented The Internet".

HOUSE # 2 is near Crawford, Texas. It is the private residence of
George W. Bush.

Jesus, how many times is this going to be posted. We all know Gore is an evil "do as I say not as I do" enviro wacko. The fact that Bush is held up as an enviromental champion is a riot.

As much as I dislike Bush, he is not running around, making films about Green issues and telling everyone to dump their SUV and use wind power, while he sucks up more carbon based power than a small country and a large majority of the country thinks he is the guru/go-to guy on conservation.

THAT is the true joke.

Gee, I do think that Gore is the one doing the self-portrayal as "Mr. Green". Don't see Bush doing that.

Firstly, I just had to check the veracity of the "tale" and snopes.com says that it is indeed true.

Secondly, I think the important part of the story is not W. v Gore, but instead to point out the hypocrisy of the leftist, and to show that many, many people, who don't march up and down main street waving signs about environmental evils, quietly go about their lives doing what they can to make their little corner of the world a little nicer, a little safer and a little more healthy for themselves and the world. I think most Americans fit in the same category as George W. We just live our lives and, often because of selfish reasons such as saving $, do the right thing for teh enivironment.

Bingo.

Many of us are bashing Bush for PORTRAYING himself as a conservative and not PRESIDING this way.

Now, we are on Gore for SAYING one thing and ACTING entirely different in his personal life.

I am being pretty damn consistent if you think about it.

+1 on this - totally agree, and yes, I wish GWB was the real article that he said he was (but he's not) and I felt all along that Gore wasn't the real article he says he is (but isn't). Sure, the Hollywood liberal crowd will make a "big deal" out of him, but we all know he's as phoney as the rest of the Beltway set.

Too bad this is the type that wants to run the country.....and just wait 'till Shillery or Obama gets up there.....

Well what's good for the goose.... I'll man up. I do believe in GW. Gore is passionate about it and I truly believe he believes in the cause. He was Clinton's Vice and there is no way he can claim ignorance of how the right wing dislikes him. He made his little documentary and wants to devote time to the issue. He buys carbon credits to offset his energy use and says he is carbon neutral.

Homey please. There is no way to defend that. As a leader he should know to lead by example. As a politician he should know the Right is gunning for him. The fact that he does what he does defies belief. He may be carbon neutral through credits, but.... he could buy those credits to take them off the market, and he could tear down his mansion and build a monstrous energy efficient masterpiece. He could install solar on his property and sell to the grid. He could do so much more.

I was just cranky this morning and I see this like every week and everyone that posts it thinks they have found a treasure. Sorry But please, just because he is an idiot, don't lump everyone into his boat.

The story behind his "carbon credits" was shaky...at best. Wasn't he basically buying them from a company he partially or wholly owns? What a joke.

Another question that is NEVER asked of Al Gore, the self annointed prince of all things green, is what did he do during his 8 years as VP to make the environment better?

Come on now, he and Clinton had all three branches in their party's favor at the beginning of their tow terms...what DID they do in the way of green legislation? Didn't they have their chance to make sweeping changes? Where was all their green concearns back then?

Did Clinton sign the Kyoto Protocol? No.

Did Clinton/Gore do anything to lessen our dependence on foreign oil? Not that I can see.

Did they pass legislation to strengthen CAFE standards or make more fuel efficient cars or hybrids more prevalent? Don't remember that, either.

Other than running around as of late with a movie and a preachy tone...I fail to see exactly it is that Al Gore has done for the environment.

The "green-ness" of Clinton/Gore versus Bush/Cheney is about dead even, if you ask me.
