Talking SD State Constitution

South Dakota State Constitution Article VI, Section 24
The right of the citizens to bear arms in defense of themselves and the state shall not be denied

I was just digging around on Packing.org and found my state's constitutional grant for self-defense.

If you've read my posts before you probably already know i love my state.

this is just another reason why.

Wow...that's pretty damned good.

Much less open to interpretation and twisting than the United States Constitution.

Alaska Constitution

Quote:
A well-regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. The individual right to keep and bear arms shall not be denied or infringed by the State or a political subdivision of the State. [Amended 1994
Ours was exactly the same as the federal one, but we amended it in 1994 to clarify the individual right.

+1000 to Alaska for clarifying that--especially as recently as 1994.

Too bad clarifying that in the US constition has about a zero percent chance of ever happening.

One good thing about it, political subdivision means all towns, county`s etc.

So, bascially it is a form of "premption" (as they call it these days) within the constitution!

I love it! No wonder Alaska hasn't had problems like other states (Ohio) with gun laws not being uniform depending on the county/town/city.

Yeah, South Dakota may not be the most popular state in the union (I kinda like it that way), but it is a darned nice place to live if you like your freedoms.
