I would personally have no qualms with some new nuclear power plants being built. the only thing I would worry about is thier potential to be targets of Terror attacks. Various reports have found that security at these places is laughable at best.
Agreed. We can't let ONE instance of a meltdown in a plant that was run by a bankrupt country, which ignored safety proceedures, convince us that is the norm for nuclear plants.

As long as we secure the plants, run them safely and properly dispose of the MINUMAL waste that they produce, they are by far the best option for electricity.

Pretty much my thoughts as well. We've lived with, if not the largest, one of the largest nuke generating stations in the country (Palo Verde) here in the Phoenix area (about 30-40 miles out), and I can honestly say that it's not something I really think about on a daily basis. Every once in a while we'll hear about one of the reactors being shut down for a minor alarm or maintenance, but the folks who run the place know what they're doing, and I'd imagine that's the case at the rest around the country. Three Mile Island and Chernobyl woke the world up, and nobody wants to be the next.

Save the Americans--end abortion now.

A fun trivia fact about 3 mile island. . .

Probably saved more lives than it harmed. After the accident they installed radiation meters for employees entering and leaving. One of the employees kept tripping the alarms, even though he was entering. A little investigation later they discovered that his house was contaminated with Radon. (And that it sat on a low level uranium seam.) Yes, this directly lead to the radon scare, but it also taught people that opening your windows once a month is a good thing.

You might want to re-think that...

Remember last time you guys bought power from a Texas company?

...didn't work out so well...did it? blame it on Enron, but it was YOUR state govt. that put you all in that energy shortage pickle. Fun, wasn't it?

Sure, we'll set up refineries...then sell the oil to you people for 150 bucks a barrel. Great idea! Enjoy your pretty beaches...you'll all be living on them when you get the bill for our oil!

LOL
