From the media reports it would seem like the citizens or Iran are not happy with the current government. A great way to unite them would be to attack Iran. Remember last summer when Isreal had several soldiers kidnapped, they attacked, dropped a whole lot of bombs and in return didn't get their soldiers back, had rockets blasting their cities and became even more unpopular.
The situation sucks for the UK. They can do nothing, have the UN send a letter of protest (I have to remember Team America World Police), keep up the sanctions and hope the Iranian gov't cracks, go covert, or cave to Iran's demands and appologize.
As far as Iran and oil goes, I have been told but never found in writing that Iran has to import gasoline. Something about their oil can not be refined into gasoline. If this is true they are hurting themselves by raising the price of oil.
The US should stay out of it until the UK asks for help. To many people in the Middle East are against the US no matter what we do. We could give some of them money and hospitals and we would still be doing something wrong in their eyes.

I believe a more accurate picture is that Iran's oil can be refined into gasoline. However Iran only has 1 refinery with this capability. Therefore they rely on other nations to refine their oil and provide them with gasoline. If the UK wanted to cripple them, they could bomb or sabotage the Iranian refinery and impose a blockade to prevent shipments of gasoline from entering the Iranian ports.

Or use an old Sadaam ploy......bomb their oil pipelines.

Except for the fact that they are the #1 state sponsor of terror and they are refusing to comply and disclose in regard to their nuclear program. Putting and end to those two problems would be very beneficial.

Does anybody wonder if things do escalate with Iran that Venezuela may help them out? Not that I am worried about Venezuela, but Chavez does seem to really look up to the Iranian hitler.

Also, Jeff XD mentioned the situation with Israel last year where their soldiers were kidnapped and they retaliated and got bombed themselves and are still made to look like the bad guys. I see this as a little different. The media hates Israel and feels the same about them as the Iranians and other middle eastern countries do. The UK is a little different in the media's eyes I think.

An air strike to take out a reactor is not "taking them out".

And now I'm completely confused. We are in Afghanistan. We Invaded Iraq. But Iran is the #1 state sponsor of terror? Man it's hard to keep up.

Never claimed it was.

Sorry you are confused. Afghanistan was giving that terrorist group who carried out the 9/11 attacks a safe-haven and a training ground.

Iraq had been defying militarily-enforcible UN resolutions for 12 years.

We also thought they had and were proliferating WMD--turns out we might have been wrong.

Iraq is easily debatable, but Afghanistan was the right thing to do.

Google "Benevolent Hegemony" to alleviate your confusion.

I'm not confused about Afghanistan and Iraq, I was just unaware of Iran's new status as #1 State sponsor of terror. Is that of the World, or is that just a regional title? Is there a party? What security color are you suposed to wear for that?

I see I spoke to soon about the spin. The "Benevolent Hegemony" crowd will be very pleased

So now the UN says Iran needs to release them, and Iran responds by saying 'stay out of it'.
