Edwards is scared
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/...n2546570.shtml
(CBS/AP) Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards won't participate in a debate co-hosted by Fox News and the Nevada Democratic Party, his campaign said, as party officials tried to settle a dustup over their partnership with the cable network. Edwards' campaign said the involvement of Fox News, which is often accused by liberals of having a conservative bias, was part of the decision to pass on the Aug. 14 debate in Reno. "There were a number of factors and Fox was one of those. We're already planning to participate in a jam-packed schedule of debates across this country ... we can't attend every single debate and forum," the campaign said in a statement. The two Democratic presidential frontrunners, Sen. Hillary Clinton and Sen. Barack Obama, have not indicated whether they will attend the Nevada debate. Fox boss Rupert Murdoch threw a Senate fundraiser for Clinton, and is said to have a good relationship with the former first lady. Online activists and bloggers quickly hailed Edwards' decision as a victory in their campaign to urge Nevada Democrats to drop Fox News as a partner. MoveOn.org Civic Action says it has collected more than 260,000 signatures on a petition that calls the cable network a "mouthpiece for the Republican Party, not a legitimate news channel." Fox News Channel vice president of news David Rhodes issued a statement calling it "unfortunate that Sen. Edwards has decided to abandon an opportunity to reach the largest mainstream cable news audience in America." On the language of the petition, Rhodes has said: "Everyone has a right to free speech." Democratic Party officials and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid initially touted the partnership with Fox News as an opportunity to reach out to a different bloc of voters. But in a letter posted Wednesday on the party's Web site, Democratic Party Chairman Tom Collins said Reid now shares activists' concerns and "has asked us to take another look." Collins said the party would invite a "local progressive voice" to participate on the debate panel, which also would include a reporter from a local Fox affiliate, a national Fox News reporter and the moderator. The party also invited the local Air America affiliate, a liberal radio network, to air the event live. C-SPAN will carry the debate after the Fox News broadcast and PoliticsTV.com to carry the live Fox News webcast feed on its site for one-time viewing, he said. MoveOn Civic Action spokesman Adam Green dismissed the offer as "a lame proposal that would have multiple Fox personalities joined by one lone Air America panelist. That's a rigged, unfair and unbalanced debate." "The Fox debate should just be canceled and a more legitimate news source should be found," Green said. Nevada Democratic Party spokeswoman Kirsten Searer said Edwards is the first candidate to formally respond to the invitation. New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson has said publicly he plans to attend. Searer said the decision to partner with Fox, which will pay for some production and promotion costs, is part of Nevada Democrats' overall plan to bring new voters into the presidential process and its new early caucus, scheduled for Jan. 19. The Democratic parties of Arizona, Colorado, Montana and New Mexico and the Western Majority Project, a political action committee, also are sponsoring the event. So Edwards is too much of a baby to go and actually debate in a forum not controlled by other liberals. Obviously, he will only debate where he is guaranteed softballs by liberal friends.

What if we could gather 260,000 sigs on a paper that agreed that Air America was "not a real news source" would that mean anything substantial? Probably not.
If Edwards was sincere and sure of himself and his belief structure, he'd take on Fox and do the debate. If one is sure of themselves and their beliefs...why fear the opposition so badly? But, you see, Edwards has tripped over his words and bullsh*tted his way along for decades and knows damn well that he would not hold up too well against his opponents. He's said so many different things to so many different people, that it would be extremely easy (in the right forum) to make Edwards appear as he really is: another lying, saco of sh*t lawyer that has no core beliefs and pimps out to the highest bidder. Which, in his case, are the trial lawyers and union biggies. As I have said before, I may despise these types, but one thing I will never call them is stupid. They know EXACTLY what they're doing. Edwards know deep down inside that he is a shyster cardboard character and a phoney-baloney showman and that he has to keep the setting in his favor, as to not appear to the sheeple as who he really is. Hard questions or anyone "calling him" on his questionable past will deflate him like a baloon and he will avoid this like the plague. Hillary is cut from the same cloth. Her downfall is that she is not as charismatic as Edwards or her husband, so her phoniness (is that a word?) is even more obvious. - Brickboy240

People like Dean and Edwards often see the world, not as it really is, but how they want it to be. That said, don't ever think they're THAT removed from reality - they're not.
They know EXACTLY what will dismantle them in a hurry and they stay away from it. A debate with hard questions, asked by those that either dislike them or see them for who they really are is just such a catalyst. How do you think Hillary got elected Senator of NY? Same battle plan. - Brickboy240

It is hard to believe sometimes that Democrats actually aren't that far from reality, either that or they think the public is really stupid. Take Hillary's fake accent for example. How could someone not see through that attempt at pandering? If I were in that church, I would have been insulted. But did the people actually buy it and the Dems knew they would or are the Dems so far off base that they think the public will buy it? Honestly I don't know which is worse.
If a republican came and spoke to me and tried to pretend about something I think it would be pretty easy to see through, especially something so transparent as a fake accent. That person would certainly not get my vote. bd will say that Bush did it when he spoke spanish to mexicans when he was campaigning. But Bush can in fact speak spanish. Hillary can not speak ebonics.

Yes, but Hillary WAS following her very predictable game plan: she was surrounded by like-minded, friendly folks that would not dream of being unfriendly to her. Group-think at its worst. She could have attempted a sad whitey version of a rap song and nobody there would have said a thing negative.
For some strange reason, the DNC has brainwashed much of black America into believing that the DNC is their friend. That THEY have their best interests at heart and only THEY stand up for black people. Truth-be-told, many of the Democrat's social plans hurt black Americans. They just don't see it. Since many blacks have been Democrats for generations and told to only vote Democratic, they too see the world as they WANT TO...not how it really is. Many blacks have preconcieved notions about conservatives and thats really sad. Then theres the stigma surrounding those black that DO see things differently and decide to support conservative issues and viewpoints. These folks are often called "sell-outs" or "Uncle Toms" by the leftist black establishment. As if having a different point of view makes one a traitor. Instantly hated...the leftist blacks are doing EXACTLY what they curse bigoted whites for doing - hating someone because they are different. Look at the treatment Bill Cosby got from the biggies at the NAACP for just speaking the truth as a guest speaker at one of their conventions. The man told the truth and was pretty much outcast and belittled for saying out loud, what many know is true. Why is that? Too bad...Cosby was absolutely correct in his musings. I long for the day that blacks can see that thinking conservatively on some issues HELPS them...and that they should see the benefit to themselves, their families and community in doing so. Many conservative issues are not race-specific and benefit EVERYONE...not just ones of a certain racial make-up. I hope that black America will, in fact, come around and realize the Democrats are using them and they will dump the users, as they're not doing them a bit of good. It will come...but it might be farther away than some of us would like. - Brickboy240

I don't think it's that Edwards is scared, although I would concede that he would probably prefer a more sympathetic outlet. IMO, I think there's more merit to the desire of shutting out, and eventually shutting down (if possible) the more conservative media outlets.
