Exclamation Have YOU written your congresscritters on HR1022?

Yes YOU!

No? Why the hell not! You're too busy? It won't help? Plenty of people have written already? My congresscritters won't listen? That stuff will never pass anyway?

That crap is WEAK!!!! Write those letters now! You're already sitting at your computer. The keyboard is right in front of you.

Write your representative and both senators. It's easy. Go here:

http://www.congress.org/congressorg/home

Enter your zip and viola, your congresscritters contact info is right there.

Write, print, stuff, lick, stamp, mail.

I wrote all my federal elected officials through that site...very easy.
Here is the only response I got back:

Dear Mr. So Flo:

Thank you for contacting me regarding the semiautomatic weapons ban. I appreciate hearing from you and would like to respond to your concerns.

When our Founding Fathers drafted the Constitution, they included the Second Amendment to guarantee people the right to keep and bear arms. This is a fundamental part of our American identity, and I will work with my Senate colleagues to ensure that this liberty is protected for all law-abiding citizens.

On February 13, 2007, Representative Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY) introduced the Assault Weapons Ban and Law Enforcement Protection Act (H.R. 1022). This legislation would reauthorize for ten years the Public Safety and Recreational Firearms Use Protection Act, which prohibits the manufacture, transfer, or possession of a semiautomatic assault weapon or a large capacity ammunition feeding device. H.R. 1022 has been referred to the House Committee on the Judiciary, where it awaits further approval.

Although no similar legislation has been introduced in the Senate, I will keep your thoughts in mind as we proceed in the 110th Congress.

Again, thank you for sharing your views with me. If you have any additional questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact me. In addition, for more information about issues and activities important to Florida, please sign up for my weekly newsletter at http://martinez.senate.gov.

Sincerely,

Mel Martinez
United States Senator

So it seems those who have not done their duty are just ignoring the question. Hell if I was so lazy I wouldn't even write a letter to defend freedom I wouldn't click this thread either.

Dear Tom Tancredo,<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>
Subject: HR 1022<o></o>
On <st1:date Month="2" Day="13" Year="2007">February 13, 2007</st1:date>, Representative Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY) introduced the Assault Weapons Ban and Law Enforcement Protection Act (H.R. 1022). This legislation would reauthorize for ten years the Public Safety and Recreational Firearms Use Protection Act, which prohibits the manufacture, transfer, or possession of a semiautomatic assault weapon or a large capacity ammunition feeding device. H.R. 1022 has been referred to the House Committee on the Judiciary, where it awaits further approval.<o></o>
When our Founding Fathers drafted the Constitution, they included the Second Amendment to guarantee people the right to keep and bear arms. This is a fundamental part of our American identity and liberty protected for all law-abiding citizens. The constitution does not differentiate the type of arms one could own.

A common misperception is drawn between law-abiding citizen’s firearm ownership and crime. H.R 1022 draws the conclusion that by limiting gun ownership to law-abiding citizens will somehow protect Public Safety or Law Enforcement. All of the studies completed when the prior Assault Weapons Ban was enacted under President Clinton showed no direct benefit to Law Enforcement or Public Safety.
Please help me understand why elected representatives continue efforts to restrict and violate our rights guaranteed under the second amendment of the constitution. H.R 1022 is not something I am for, I am against H.R 1022 and violation of rights guaranteed under the constitution to all Americans. As an elected official I urge you to vote against H.R 1022.

Sincerely,<o></o>

Yep, I've written all three of my reps and requested responses from all of them. So far I've yet to hear back from any of them. I understand Obama not responding though . . . he's got a presidential campaign to worry about. Never mind us poor little constituents . . .

Shamelessly stole from broadsides and edited with my personal touches.
