From reading their views, I would NOT consider them to be total polar-opposites from the mainstream of the Republican Party.

Example: they don't oppose the free market and they aren't for gay marriage.

I get your point, there may be some groups within the two major parties, but they don't have complete opposite views of the major issues, like many of the factions of the libertarian party.

I believe Strom Thrumond ran for President as a member of that party ( I could be wrong though).

I've looked at the party several times. This last election they won several offices in Utah. I get the mailers and email news letter from them about once a month.

The main Libertarian voices can't even agree about what Libertarianism is.

You aren't going to find that with the republican and democrat parties.

I found that strange too, but like i posted before that is one of my only qualms with them. Constitution as-is is a great concept! weird how some crazy old coots in the 1700's figured it out and we can't :P lol.

just joking on the last part, and the rest is just my 2 cents

If they live up to their principles, they won't try to ban gay marriage at the federal level or by amending the constitution.

I remain skeptical as well and I haven't yet decided who I am supporting.

Question, beardman2: who are you supporting? You seem like a pretty reasonable and logical fellow, so I am curious as to who you might be rooting for.

Frank
I'm kind rooting for ron paul right now. I don't think he has a snowballs chance so I'll probably have to re-look at it after the primaries. none of the major candidates seem real great. I like Guliani as a person but obviously am a little worried about him. McCain also can be good but can also do some REALLY stupid stuff.

Overall I love the idea of the constitution party and would get behind it 100% if they'd get rid of that part. However it would also depend on the candidates.

Thanks for replying. I agree with your analysis' of Guiliani and McCain. For me, the gun and abortion views of Romney and Guiliani have ruled them out completely. I could get behind McCain if there was nobody else, despite the issues I have with him--he is DEFINITELY better than Hillary though.

Again, the only person that I am supporting 100% right now is Ralph Nader. We will have to see how the GOP primary works out before I decide on a Republican pick or whether or not to vote third-party.
