Well folks, its a few months after the democrats made huge gains in congress (both on the federal and state levels). Let's take a look at how they have been trying to use their newfound lawmaking power so far:
Sally Lieber (D-CA) proposed a law to ban the spanking of children, depending on their age. Under the proposal, you could be jailed for a violation. (http://www.nytimes.com/2007/01/21/us...rssnyt&emc=rss ) Carl Kruger (D-NY) proposed a law to ban ipod and cell phone use while walking in crosswalks. (http://www.wnbc.com/news/10948106/detail.html) Ira Ruskin (D-CA) proposed new legislation that would require buyers to pay up to a $2500 surcharge for buying an SUV. (Btw, what was wrong with giving people tax CREDITS when they purchased a hybird car? Oh wait, it's better for the government to make money off new laws, not give anything back to the people Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY) proposed new legislation that would reauthorize the Clinton gun-ban and add 65 guns BY NAME to the list of banned firearms. (http://www.nraila.org/Legislation/Read.aspx?ID=2668 ) The democrats, led by George Miller (D-CA), banned secret ballots in union elections. (http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill.xpd?bill=h110-800 ) IL Dems are seeking passage of a law that would ban "the private sale of firearms and any magazine with a capacity greater than 8 rounds. Not only are they going to ban the items, but you will have 90 days to destroy, sell out of state, or turn in anything on the list. Not doing so will results in a Class Three Felony. Remember, IL owners are required to get a permit to purchase, so the state knows who has guns." (IL set to ban many things... ) That's right folks--you will be an automatic felon if you don't turn in or destroy your firearms. I keep hearing "American voted for change". Did they really want endless "nanny state" laws to ban spanking and cell phones? Did they want sweeping firearms bans? I compiled this list by myself, using articles I've seen in the news lately. I am sure that there are more crazy laws out there. Doesn't the democrat congress have anything better to do? It seems like if the democrats don't like something, they ban it. If they don't like the choices that Americans are making, they ban those choices so we can't make them anymore. What better way to force the people into conforming with the liberal mindset by banning them into doing what the democrats think they should be doing. And people were upset because they can't call al-qaeda anymore without someone listening. Frank

Time to add another proposed piece of legislation to the list.....
Frederica Wilson, D-Miami - Has proposed a bill that would ban any state agencies from using the term "illegal alien" in any state documents because it is too offensive. http://www.news-press.com/apps/pbcs..../70227062/1075 Perhaps we can turn this thread into an ongoing list of how the democrats are using their new congressional law-making power, on the local, state and federal levels. Frank

Time to add another bill to the list:
Levine, D-CA has proposed a bill for ALL dogs (except breeders) in Ca. to be neutered. The Democrats are still at it in Calif. Frank

Now this one is bipartisan, tho I can't find any more info on it re who is sponsoring it.
Starting Jan. 1, 2008, $500 will be given to every newborn child, regardless of the legal status of the parent, to set up an account to help pay for their future college education or home. The cost to the taxpayers will "only be $285 million per year. Heck, for that price, why not just make it $1000. I posted this on another of my threads, but Frank asked me to post it here also, since this is the "official" stupid bill thread; so I did. |
