bd, the problem here is that the second amendment is the only guarentee of our other rights. If you are going to be a one issue voter, be it on the most important issue.

Magazines and Ammunition.

The anti-gunners are wiley. They realized that the lats assault weapons ban cost their cause pretty dearly, and so I think next time they won't just attack weapons...they will attack ammunition too.

You'll see outrageous taxes on ammunition that's not deemed "sporting" with ammo types classified as unsporting increasing every day.

Those of you who put anything other than bird or buck in your shotguns...I'd buy that up in surplus as well.

What else....

Anything that makes a weapon "look bad" will probably be gone. Weapon lights, magazine extensions, black "tactical" buttstocks and so on.

I also try to keep around and become proficient with a few things that would be harder to ban....just in case the "door to door" searches start in the next portion of my lifetime.

I'm not going to throw myself into a losing battle with a government agency who comes to confiscate my guns, leaving my family by themself...I would consider that socially irresponsible. I might evade, I might hide my guns, but I'm not going to give up my life for them.

So JIC I try keep a few things that don't look so "menacing" to the anti gunners.

I have an old Ruger Single Action cowboy style revolver chambered in .357 magnum that would probably look like a collector's item.

I have my grandfather's old .30-06 deer rifle with the orginal "artistic" wooden stock.

I have a little Marlin model 60 .22 plinker with which I can deliver fast, accurate fire.

I kept the original wooden stock, forend, and 28" barrel for my mossberg 500 so that I could make it look like a bird gun again.

Are these the optimal tools for self defense? Probably not..
Could I use them?...you bet your #@! I could!

Am I going to hold on to the notions that these themselves couldn't be banned in the future?...hell no....there are alot of people out there that want ALL guns gone...EVERY...SINGLE...ONE...I'm going to do everything in my power to make sure that the people who want us to lose our guns don't take political office.

Most importantly when I have children I'm going to make sure they know how to shoot, how to handle a gun properly and responsibly, and just how important the personal ownership and use of firearms are in a free society.

As usual, bd - you miss the point. The voters did not agree to change the bsic fabric of the country. They are indicating that the course of the war is a major concern to them and they want a change. The Democrats are using their "victory" to enact changes in everything from the course of the war (which I agree needs to be changed) to a multiude of proposed social welfare programs and tax increases. None of these things were on the slate when the Democrats ran. Now that they're in office, it's everything we didn't vote for on the table.

That's the point, bd - they are EXCEEDING their mandate and moving the country to the left in an alarming way. I hope the voters wake up to this fact and it comes back to bite the Democrats in 2008.

Ill say this, and only this (mainly because I cant sleep tonight), but its not until you look at the situation from the outside that you realize how much our country is made up of sheeple, and that they arent going to wake up anytime soon...

Right wrong or indifferent if you have NOT signed up for the NRA and Gun Owners of America and your local Pro 2nd Amendment Rights group you need to do it NOW. We can't afford to wait on this guys and gals. If you choose to do nothing at all at least support those who are willing to do something. /soapbox
